To you all ;

I have lived and worked in North Cyprus for many, many years and have never posted on a forum, before I joined Cyprus 44 on January 21st 2012 .

I used my own name and email address to ask questions about Festival 11 and the misappropriation of funds which should have gone to Cheshire Home.

To put this in the public arena I put away all my prejudices and preconceived ideas and ignored what I had been told about Cyprus 44 and posted an open list of public concerns.

I wanted to ask honest questions about a matter that both ex pats and locals had issues with.

For this, over the course of many posts, I was vilified both personally and professionally by some Cyprus 44 members..

And then I was banned. I lasted on Cyprus 44 just over a month. Those that supported my questions were also banned whilst those that condemned me are still allowed to continue to post.

So in conclusion I would like to say to those who are the first to complain about

Continued:-

So in conclusion I would like to say to those who are the first to complain about injustices in this country, yet were the first to condemn me, you get what you deserve, because those who do not challenge wrong doing are as bad as those who commit it.

I wish that all the good, honest and accountable posters on Cyprus 44 go to Heaven...

I wish that the rest of you get stuck in perpetual Cyprus 44.forum Hell ....because I now realise that you probably just deserve it !

Typical deliberate misinformation. She was banned for trying to re-open a closed thread. C44 is a moderated forum which means that some threads can be closed by the moderators. You either accept that or you get banned for a suitable period. Of course she knows the reason but sounds better this way.

Izmet surley you mean "starting a similar thread" to one which has been closed, as only moderators can open or close threads in your own words. I think what Denise is also saying is that "some moderators" are far too quick to ban members and close threads on certain subjects which are very topical and of particular interest to all. regards Barry

Yes, starting a similar thread, re-opening the same thread or resurrecting a closed thread all come to the same thing if it is done within minutes of the closure.

Elko2 ! this means that a perfectly informative thread could be closed because "one idiot person" may post a naughty word to another, and then if a similar post is started to resurrect that informative thread without the so called idiot, then that person would be banned !!! what a strange rule ! Or a suggestion may be that the original thread gets closed because of too many awkward questions and is not liked when a similar is started to obtain the answers. regards Barry

Snakes, I do not agree with your analysis. The moderators have the tools to edit a post or delete a post if appropriate. We have a system in place which nobody claims is 100% perfect but we can always endeavor to improve it rather than each member trying to impose their own version of free speech. If they had their way, the society would have to scrap all laws of libel and slander. Indeed, if people had more faith in our courts and advocates the sort of habitual offenders we see on C44 would banish. However when it comes to libel unfortunately I do not have much faith in our courts either. They do not take it as seriously as the English courts. This is unfortunate. See this as an example of habitual offender who does find support from some members of this forum. http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/87249.asp

Snakes, no disagreement there. However there are exemptions out of necessity. For example the police have the powers of arrest without a court order. Regards

Long may people such as Denise and Lee continue to fight for justice and the truth, and hopefully most people back and support them. These people do not try to damage charities on the contrary they only want the charities to get what is rightfully theirs.

I, for one, was very sorry to see the recent spate of bannings on this board which seems completely unjustified. I am a Moderator/Administrator on another long standing board which does allow Free Speech. I am also a fairly regular poster on this board too.

Here is a link to the registration page, which clearly shows the forum rules, to enable you to join the board & also a link to the thread about Festival 11 debacle, which has ongoing discussion of this issue & dates back to 31st January.

Should RadioAngel or others recently banned, who are not existing members of this board, wish to continue their discussion of the issues raised by Festival 11 rather than see it swept under the carpet, they are welcome to join this board. We have fair moderation which will be speedily enforced. Anyone not sticking to the rules will be banned, e

Anyone not sticking to the rules will be banned, either forever or as we see fit. We will not tolerate posts which are abusive, contain personal threats or libellous comments.

We look forward to welcoming any new members who would welcome a board where Free Speech is encouraged. We have been accused of being 'Happy Clappy'. I can assure you that this is not the case.

Since the first part of my post did not copy & paste well from wordpad. I have added the links below again.

scruff - well, I got banned for life from your 'happy-clappy' board merely because I argued about the safety of scuba diving in TRNC - nobody was insulted. So, please, don't tell us people have freedom of expression on your forum!

scruff - the fact remains you gave me no warning or temporary ban or any reason for being banned for life - you know it, and yes, I will keep on believing the facts.

What is fact is that I contributed much valuable information to your board readers - would you like to deny that?

Believe me, you can't post anything the slightest bit controversial on 'scruff's' forum, they can't tolerate anything like that!

So ask yourself why has it earned the unenviable reputation of being the 'happy-clappy' forum?

I admit I may have 'sailed pretty close to the wind' in terms of probably deserving to be banned on CY44 - but I have been banned for life on 'scruff's' forum for far less innocuous postings than I've posted on CY44 - that information should warn people!

msg 27. You're having a lapse of memory. You were warned on several occasions. I repeat your ban was nothing to do with Scuba diving safety & everything to do with your posting style which frequently upset many other members.

msg 30. clipper50. No. The members who have been banned on here & the ban justified by the oh so 'most helpful member' would not have been banned for posting similar on our forum. Your issues with me now seem to be turning personal btw.

What a shame that a new member should be banned, without a warning, and for a MONTH!

Densie was one of the very few people who has tried to DO something. She was able to convince quite a few people she was correct. Members who originally disagreed, very quickly apologised, which takes quite a lot.

Banning someone for a first offence, causes topics like this to appear. Any post or new topic can be edited/deleted as soon as a FA sees it. Then a warning email could be sent. This is my humble opinion how adult members should be treated.

Denise was not obnoxious, nor was she rude, even to those who tried insulting her.

All a months ban does is alienate the banned member and many others. A member who has had a warning (in private) could become a very welcome long-lasting contributor.

The FA that dishes out these bans "willy nilly" is seen by some as the actual bully.

With respect,

Texas.

PS. The sound of silence from some FA's is deafening. But you guys should st

Thank you Simbas, sorry to have to ask these things but I have a reason. Transparency and accountability or lack of it has played a big part in the CH fiasco. Lack of transparency or accountability of those that run and own this forum can only lead to speculation that there is some connection along the lines.

I seriously hope not and that recent actions can be reviewed and hopefully a solution found.

It is very disturbing that 'Moderators' would close threads and ban a poster who was genuinly and by way of open investigative journalism trying to unravel potential abuse of charitable contributions in NC.

Is this an open forum, or a 'closed shop' where nothing must be posted to 'upset the applecart'.

RadioAngel brought this matter to light which may have come as a shock to many posters who paid into the charity in question.

How do 'Moderators' now feel people will view other 'Charitable' contributions?

Good on you RadioAngel!

Simbas. How have you remained a moderator after being "threatened" by a banned member ? surely such cowardly behaviour would sicken you into resignation. I feel ashamed to belong to a forum where this behaviour exists and would like to apologise on behalf of the humane side of the forum, not the animal. regards Barry PS In my opinion just as pathetic as people who "alledgedly" take money under a charity banner.

Thankfully this thread has now got back on topic. I now am starting to wonder if I should have posted in the first place. It was not my intention to give the knockers & those banned in the past, from another board, an axe to grind. The members in question know exactly why they were banned.

I am also shocked that a Forum Moderator should get involved in the ridicule in such a childish way, but maybe this is to be expected. His words say everything & more about him, than they do about me.

This thread was started by Mrs Snakes so that the person who has made the most serious attempt to get to the bottom of what happened to all the money raised by Festival11, RadioAngel could air her views if she so wished. Since she's now been gagged on this board, I was offering her a platform for this elsewhere. End of.

Simbas,

I would like you to, with the other FA's overide the decision to ban Denise and allow her to continue to post, including subjects such as CH.

Even High Court Judges make mistakes. Their decision can be "turned" by a higher authority. I am not suggesting "you" are a higher authority, but together with the other FA's, you may be able to have the courage to speak up for some members who have made their views clear.

FA's will have a much bigger and wider support if they could see that perhaps the decision, was for a first offence, a little harsh.

Don't you agree?

Perhaps, Denise would not wish to "contribute" again, but at least, sense would prevail.

Didn't our friend DC (Hans) only get a 3-day ban for questioning the integrity of Mr Izzet Zorlu publicly on his own forum?

Advertising another board is not against the forum rules, continuous posting about it may possibly be.

I too am a member of the board referred to and for completeness and transparency can confirm that I have no connection with CH or Festival 11 nor have I been given a gagging order or any threats.

Also of course Ismail needs our help.

I think most of us will still pull together and carry on helping good causes.

Best Wishes to all of you for the fantastic support.

Kind Regards Lee and Jan xx

I was caught out by the wierd reopening of closed threads rule about a week after joining cyp44-i got a months ban for not doing anything wrong but persuing a subject ..

It does stink of censorship on a huge scale-the moderator, maybe ,with an agenda or a briefing, becomes judge and jury-somewhat unfiarly as it goes against the whle concept of free speech.

All credit to mr and mrs snakes for bringing to the forefront an (alleged )wrong.

it does seem odd that certain people can get away with constant vitriol, and get away with it, but when other try to fight a cause in a balanced way get punished with a ban.

If you get fed up. I hear Quarry Bank is looking for a new mayor. With your charitable leanings,

scruff - I feel so sorry for you having such hypersensitiveness - along with the members of your pathetic board, whom you say complained about my not entirely correct PC posting. One moment I was praised for contributing - I think it was about Mossies & Sandflies - the next, without any warning whatsoever, you ban me for life - I'll never get a good night's sleep ever again for worrying about my lifetime ban - what a pack of 'Happy Clappies' you've proved yourselves to be - it's laughable!

May you long continue to wallow in your cosy cocoon of misplaced self-rightousness!

Denise and Lee its good to have you back ! (there but the grace of God etc) However, I dont think it is apt or correct to thank or congratulate F/A's or moderators which ever term is correct, as most thought the bans were unjustified in the first instance. However I will say well done to Ismet for "seeing sense" lets hope we can all move forward and use the forum for what it is intended, providing information for all who use it and exposing problem area's with the hope of answers. regards Barry

Hi Welcome back Denise, Where have the days of Sunny Beach etc gone, so much has changed.

Could I ask a silly question regarding charities here in the trnc, of which there are so so many, and everywhere you go some club or bar is putting something on for some charity, can't we just go out for a quiet beer anymore without having to buy a raffle ticket.

Do we as expats benefit from any of these charities if we become unwell for instance. I am excluding KAR as the dogs have no say in the matter.

If I become ill I would have to pay for any medical treatment, whereas the locals get it for free, so it should be them that actually give to charity, and not us hard up expats.

I have always said of charities that whilst we dig into our pockets the government, who should be supplying equipment etc, keep their hands firmly in their pockets.

This is just a genuine question and should be addressed in the same manner. Thank you.

Whilst I do agree wholeheartedly that the Governments of all countries should be digging deep and helping there own people, BUT.... unfortunately this does not happen and people/animals will go on suffering if people just stood back and did not help. What was the ambulance service like out here before 112, I remember as do so many others and I think this has helped all nationalities not just Cypriots. One home in Nicosia with badly disabled children in wheelchairs had no hot water system, is this right? no, so through Charity this has enabled them to be able to wash in hot water. Unfortunately it is only when you work for a charity you see these sort of problems as they are not made common knowledge by governments as this would not look good for their country. What would have happened without Lee helping Ismail? It is wrong that in this day and age more is not done for the underprivileged by governments, but thank god there are still people who feel they want to help in

some small way, be it volunteers, or spending 5tl on a raffle ticket. I think there is somewhat charity fatigue here and that is understandable when you see it everywhere. I really do not know what the answer is. But this is just my opinion.

Yes I do agree that there are some really good causes that do deserve a helping hand, and I have given to some charities here over the years, but as you say there is charity fatigue here, but some are favoured much more than others.

I suppose with a government that has no money it is hard to get the blood from the stone......!!!!

Parkview,

Agree wholeheartedly with your post but a society is rightly judged, on how it helps it's less fortunate members. Charities are very important but often act as a" band aid " to coverup lack of government support for the people in need. It's the same in most countries.

Without question this whole banning debacle has highlighted the quality of the moderators. In spite of denials there is still a suspicion that pressure was bought to bear. RadioAngel through her efforts has in all probability saved other organisations and public donations from being misused in the way CH homes suffered. Thank you RadioAngel.

Hi Mel

When this money that is 'missing' from Festival 11 has been reclaimed and accounted for people will realize that the issue here is making sure money given to support the CH goes to them.

Not left unaccounted for by the very Festival 11 committee, who were responsible for ensuring ALL the funds went where they were supposed to and not allowed to be used as a personal long term, interest free, loan paid back monthly.

Now here's a strange thing. I have also been unbanned. I have no idea what the festival is. I've never heard of Cheshire Homes. I questioned the integrity of the mod who some people regard as "a most helpful member". Not a view I choose to share incidentally. I was interested as to why he was closing down threads at such speed.

Stubbs1 thin ice and skating pop into my head. Others have noted the same, truth will out.

Best stay on topic though, the installment payments to CH intrigue me who is making these payments and why has this person used or abused charity funds that now need to be paid back bit by bit?
