well here it is - the 6,000 the neg nick post

always try to tell it how it is with a little humour chucked in for good measure

and don't worry about the litter strewn beaches, builders shite dumped everywhere, corrupt legal system, no direct flights, 3rd world utilities, dwindling tourist numbers, trade embargo's, shoddily built houses, freezing winters, boiling hot summers, red tape like no other, farcical car import duty, ex-pats moaning all the time, rocketing costs (brings a whole new meaning to "we moved here cos it was cheap"), farcical immigration policy, farcical work permit policy, land stolen at gun point (we all know the GC's will NEVER forget - but can you blame them ?), nothing to do other than drink, loaf around and eat kebabs, the lies, the cheating and the bullshit and the fact that without Turkey's money, the place would fall flt on it's face.....

Hardly "living the dream" - is it ?

Don't worry - its really not that bad - its a whole lot worse..

I do find some of his posts amusing however... the irony of not knowing what the expression 'Out of the frying pan........' means is more laughable... you only have to look up 'Thailand Rubbish Dumps' in Google images to see that they have a far more serious and widespread problem than the TRNC. The children living on the dumps is a national disgrace but I guess 'there are none so blind.....' yada yada yada.

Sadly, you've categorised TRNC for what it really is, and you've been truthful in always doing so.

I think many expats main worry now is that they'll never be able to offload their shoddy concrete tents at any price, because of the unenviable reputation the TRNC + RoC have deservedly earned themselves.

The fact remains that foreigners can never own property in TRNC - not while they only have 'visitor' status, and this is what it is so difficult to make people realise.

I guess none of you knew the unsettled situation of Cyprus before you arrived here!

Or,was it the cheap prices that attracted you most.........often I hear 'you' saying............I couldn't afford to buy in 'south' or anywhere else!

The actual truth (makes no difference to situation of 'your' statuos) is the fact that, living in denial is much easier and simple.......and blame it on others/other things when the truth eventualy kicks in.

Just to put you straight - I bought a small house near Koukla [RoC] in about 1982 - moved to TRNC in 2005 and bought genuine pre '74 Turkish Title property. I don't know whether you consider £200,000 cheap?

Imagine my deep joy when I was arbitarily refused PTP [Permission to Purchase] - their excuse being too close proximity to the army. We can't even see anything to do with the army, even from the roof of our house!

I'm not living in denial of anything - the situation in TRNC is as 'negativenick' describes it. Of course, all's fine for you as a Cypriot, even though you are classed as a 'Charlie' by the locals who've never been out of the country.

You always maintain your 'I'm alright Jack!' stance - try putting your self in cheated people's shoes and try to understand their predicament and what they're going through.

Why is the "grass" always greener over there? When you were all "over there" the grass was greener "over here", now because you live/own/visit/hate "over here" the grass has gone back to being greener where you were, or, "over there".

The plain fact is that grass dies - then it grows again - then it dies - then it gets weeds in it - then the weeds die - then the grass grows brown - then all of a sudden it is green again. It depends on which part of the cycle you are looking at and what part of the cycle the grass you stand on at the moment is in.

Apart from death and taxes, nothing happens overnight that will effect your grass to that extent. Just live with it, take the knocks life hands out or that you ask for - its part of life. Chose a place to live and die then enjoy the time you have, less stress, more happiness and above all "Go with the Flow", it is easier to swim with the current than against it after all.

Have a nice day - every day!!!!

Here I am at the swimming pool at the Zimbabwe Hilton, drinking wine ,eating lobster and enjoying the wonderful sunset. Moaning about another lousy day in Zimbabwe.

Some people can have a wonderful moan free life in the most awful of countries, just depends on how much money you have ,how much the corruption and criminality actually affects you personally, and how willing you are to shut your eyes to what goes on as the cost of a carefree laidback life.

Ive met expats who tell me how wonderfull some places in the middle east, and some over places are to live in,who might not be so magnanimous in there praise, if it was members of their families being sexually abused and tortured in some stinking police cell.

Tenakoutou,

I quite agree. Having only lived (for a reasonable length of time, lets say over three years) in the UK and the TRNC, I am not sure if I have actually lived in a country that meets your standards.

However, I take life as I find it and although I can moan about it with the best of them, deep in me I know who is to blame for what I do, where I am and what I can do about it. When it all comes down to it, only a person can make a decision for (themselves) a person and if they get it wrong - for whatever reason - then the fault lies only with them. You will never see the lightning that kills you but it was your choice to walk out in the storm!

Put bitterness behind yourself and look for the light - its there but sometimes it is on the dim side till you can get close enough to see it better. Take care out there.

Having lived in UK, Tanzania, Zambia and China, I am quite happy living here, and hope to end my days living here, Inshallah! I was always taught to make the most of a bad job and enjoy the good ones - my glass is always half full not half empty - when I can afford a glass........So TRNC copes with me, and I cope with it; got my renewed driving licence today, they told me 4 weeks, its taken 7. I wasnt stopped in the meantime, and I had the receipt...so another job jobbed.

Reading the posts above, and many similar ones that appear from time to time, it is apparent that there are many disillusioned with NC, and many that take it as it comes.

However, the underlying trend is that many agree with ‘some’ of the observations, most are undeniable.

For example, all seem to agree that rubbish on the beaches etc is bad for tourism, that the poor standard of driving comes from an underlying education problem, or builders not meeting their obligations is bad for business in general (notwithstanding the fact that most were just chancers that threw a few bricks up anyway).

What does always seem to be missed however in the ‘defence of the NC realm’ from some, or the ex-pat and NC words of ‘get out then’ wisdom is that with criticism comes an opportunity to learn and improve.

Clearly (taking a simple example) anyone agreeing that litter is a bad thing, would agree that the person causing the problem needs to improve themselves, which will in turn improve things for others.

What the people living in NC need to realise is that in the bigger picture they are not the owners of the land or the environment, but only the present custodians.

The legacy of today will be passed onto the children of tomorrow, the very people that are always claimed to be held so dear.

Unfortunately, too many are only interested in what is in it for them ……….. today. Or, too uneducated to look a short distance into the future.

For someone that hates the place and slags it off no end, does not live here, NN sure spends a lot of time on this forum judging from number of posts.

Why is that?

Sounds like a combination of boredom and resentment.

Just for you NN, a little advice from a friend of mine.

Be very careful in Thailand

Just got back from a holiday in Thailand, and came that close to shackin' up with a ladyboy.

Looked like a woman, spoke like a woman, walked like a woman and kissed like a woman.

It was only when she drove me back to her place and reversed parked into a narrow parking space, in the dark, with no problem, I thought.....just a ******* minute?

I'm sure from what I have heard that Thailand is a beautiful country and possibly a great place to live.

What puzzles me is why someone who had left TRNC and moved there, and having found it so wonderful, comes on here to tell everyone how great it is.

Personally- If I were there and having a great time, the very last thing I would have time to think about would be to tell people how great it was where I'm living now.

I would just get on having a good time.

I cannot imagine any logical reason why I would post on a forum several thousand miles away unless I was depressed or mentally ill in some way.

Well NN, just to pick up on your response... if you close your eyes to the children living on rubbish dumps in Thailand of course you can make it 'seem' a great clean place... Having just visited the Karpas I can state that there are clean, completely rubbish free beaches in Cyprus too... but what we don't have is the abject poverty suffered by many in Thailand so that the likes of you can take advantage of its charms... We also don't have you which is a bonus! So just for balance and because you keep harping on about rubbish in Cyprus... take a look.

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=thailand+rubbish+dump&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=FRBTT5v4LoLoOe_okZQB&biw=1920&bih=955&sei=QRBTT_PbFMmRswalnezgCw

The fact that you don't see does not mean it's not there....

Having just got back to this forum after my comment Msg 2 yesterday morning . I noticed I've been edited!!!!!

Why? When you look at my brief message, it now looks as though I agree with what Neg Nick said and I did not. I thought he was extremely silly and the ONE word I used is not RUDE, or swearing or any reason to edit me.

So just to put the record straight I believe comments that he made are just plain crass and make him look like an I ...! Whoops nearly said it again.
