If the UK could keep up with Greece's dips, its export tubs of cream cheese and chives would be at record levels!

We are brought up in the UK to pay our taxes and obey the rules-The EU have taken the p,,,s out of law abiding countries like the UK and Germany.

Southern European countries have always regarded the EU as a free money supply, flouted the rules and lied about their finances to obtain admission, they have a different work ethic-and that is where the EU is fundamentally flawed.

However its a fantastic tax free gravy train for EU employees, so I guess It wont get wound up for a while.

Germany has done very well out of the EU,hence the reason they are fighting like hell to keep it alive.

Its a fundamentally flawed concept in my opinion unless of course you work for the EU in which case you will think it's a wonderful (wonderbar)organisation.

@ Message 1, “Puts it into perspective!”? Interesting that the BBC don’t speak of the cause of the present Greek dilemma, of the EU funds already poured into Greece’ failing economy since their accession to the European Union in 1981, with what tantamount to nothing more than false accounting procedures to hide the true value of debt back then, a crime punishable by law in most first world Countries and without which would not have qualified for entry!

The BBC don’t speak of the Infrastructure developments, roads, potable water, sewerage, electricity distribution and public services investments by the EU that have benefitted Greece since 1981, it would be interesting to see how many Years Greece have been net contributors to the EU against the Years they have been benefactors. And a final ‘haircut’ of estimates between 55% and 72% on their debt to boot, which I have no doubt whatsoever, the financial institutions suffering this imposition will recover from their own customers…

… In the fullness of time, in fact as I write, news of 1.0% and 0.5% interest rate increases on RBS and Halifax products are being announced to be implemented in Q2, 2012! It’s started already! LOL

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/gavinhewitt/2010/02/greece_the_euro_and_the_nazis.html

The Greeks have been treating their membership of the EU as a vehicle for their WW2 Reparation claims against Germany and the recent anti German news items from Greece support this belief.

“Puts it into perspective!”? Yes, when you have no intention of contributing to a community for it’s mutual benefit and view the membership benefits of that community only as a weakness to be exploited for it’s maximum selfish benefit, the reckoning will surely follow, and here it is, time now for Greece to tighten their belt and bite the bullet! Or, now would be a good time for Greece to leave the EU and float the Drachma while they’re ahead of the game…

… An excellent business model for Turkey to subscribe to, they’ve been looking for reparations from the breakup of their Ottoman Empire since the early 20th Century haven’t they?
