Would this mean that Turkey would then have more bargaining power to join "the club".Would it also mean that Northern Cyprus would no longer exist.

I'm sure those expats who moved to the TRNC because they loved Cyprus would hate to see it become just another bit of 'south Turkey.'

More importantly the Turkish Cypriots would rightly feel annexation was the final betrayal on the part of the 'Motherland.'

Lets hope annexation never happens

So if N.C. became part of Turkey would this mean that people could fly direct to Ercan, from Britain.

If you look at Turkeys laws regarding where foreigners are allowed to buy property, and annexation does happen, you might not be so happy to have bought here..

Message 16 I think if you ask Turkish Cypriots of course they would like to stay independent, but would rather live under the Turkish flag than the blue and white of Greek Cyriots - they have very long memories..

A lot of you are so thick it's unreal. Cyprus has nothing to do with greece other than the language spoke, the same as the us to the uk. Cyprus is a independent country with it's own flag no blue and white. Why are people so stupid that they try to create a greece vs turkey thing here, this maybe the case in greece and turkey, but this is cyprus, greece is not there and turkey should not be there.

You have to remember it was only a small group of people who caused the trouble it does not reflect on 99% of the greek speaking cypriots who were happy living along side there turkish speaking cypriot brothers and sisters. Turkey have well and truly overstayed there welcome and have wiped out the turkish cypriot population in the process. If every real cypriot was asked on both sides what they want, it would be for turkey to f off there is no attitude between the cypriots they just have the same common enemy. For the turkish cypriots to see turkeys true motives says it all really.

My guess is, Turkey never wanted an "agreement" here anyway. Maybe in the beginning when they thought it was cool to join the EU, they may have wanted to use N. Cyprus as a bargaining chip. Turkey would not let such a strategic piece of land out of her grasp, never willingly. Only if it suited her.

I think the annexation is a red herring.

The more likely is 2 independent states both recognised by the UN.

This will mean proper borders and direct flights.

If the GCs can sell this to the electorate and get some Turkish cash for the displacement it will go ahead.

Isn't it high time that both sides of the Island were abandoned by their baby sitters? Forced to come out of denial and facilitate a better future for future generations of the Island?

Pogle;

I guess you forgot to calculate how much money gets generated by turkish in trnc and then sent BACK to turkey?Never mind the fact that WE have no control of our country...........................

for all turkey gains here 750,000,000,000 wouldn't be enough...................as OUR for freedom .........PRICELESS

yorg 750,000,000,000 divided by say population of 200,000 would be 3.75 million TL per person, or about 1.35 million sterling per person.

Not sure about you but if offered that even as a one off payment for my personal consent to let Turkey annex the TRNC, I would have to think pretty hard about saying 'no my freedom is priceless' and while I do not doubt you would say know I suspect more TC would lean my way than yours ;)

Hell for 1.35 mill sterling I would probably thrown in my disputed title deed property as well.

erolz,,,,,those are just 'figures' that some think could buy us with................and not aware of the fact that one cannot possibly put a price on freedom.

no diffrerent then Erdogan's last years comments, regarding who pays ..............

well, they can s....e it up where the sun don't shine.............as for disputed titles,I have 2 and willing to give them up for OUR freedom

200.000 population?????? I,alone have 3 turkish neighb ours, living in sheds/not registered properties..........how many more out there?

Salahi

Out of interest in what ways would you lose your freedom? How would your day to day life be affected, as you see it? Would the TRNC be besieged by Turks who would presumably be offered equal rights?

Pogle.......you need to be CYPRIOT or at least have had the feeling of being accupied/controlled/overtaken, before you can understand where we are coming from.

Message 23 I live next door to a Turkish Cypriot and another lives close by and neither of them would give a Greek Cypriot the time of day, nor "go South", they hate them with a passion, I have heard first hand accounts of some of the attrosities pre 74 intervention.

Msg 34 Ed before 74 the occupied territory was the heart of agriculture ,lemons, oranges, grapefruits, wheat, barley, tobacco. and much more .. Just now what ever the Tcs produce turkey not only don't allow them to export anything , they force them to import from turkey ... some are crossing to the south but are not enough .. So this place could be a paradise in no time if turkey leaves us alone ...

We are already aware of those ones existance and as much as we have the greatest sympathy for them, this does not mean they are happy with present situation nor it gives Turkey the right to illegaly (in the eyes of the world at the very least) accupy our country.

Short memories of the pre 74 situation !!??

North Cyprus is now a Turkish military garrison and a gambling centre for rich Turks and others that's how it will stay!

Perhaps the Turkish Cypriots would have been better off had the Turkish army not intervened in 74 !!??

bertieboss;

why did turkish army intervene in 74?

where were the turkish army until 74?

why did americans,english..............wait all that time before intervening iraq or afghanistan or indeed why are they still waiting to intervene syria?

......perhaps the intention has always been to take control and accupie!!!................and that of course becomes easier once the country/public are weaker!!!

the world should hang their heads in shame for allowing this to take place................and have the cheek to try educating others on democracy.
