Maybe the happy people have not got time to gripe. We're happy, bought our house 12 years ago (not without problems), got our tapu 9 years ago, came for holidays first now retired and spending most of our time here, just going back to UK to see the grandchildren and friends couple of times a year. Let our flat in Uk now, short term. Can't give up my UK base totally.

Martin,

You must be able to recognise how people here think looking through the many posts on here. Yes many are positive and many are negative. What do I think, wel I love the mountains but unless Mohamed moves the mountain all is not great.

Well, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. I beieve your roots are where you grew up. Of course you can live and indeed love the TRNC or any other country that you choose to live in. However when the chips are down, and any problems arise then its back to your roots that you will run.

I have heard many say that you last about ten years..... and then its time to go home.

I was thinking, if you painted the shell of a fresh full egg with beautiful scenes and mounted it on a gold stand and put it on your mantel shelf for a year and then broke the egg maybe you will get the picture, the trick is never break the egg.

Why do we go over this sort of topic over and over and over again?? It's been done over and over PLUS you will never get a true picture because most of the comments posted about 'the state of TRNC / life in TRNC' will be posted by those with a gripe - it's human nature. The ones that are happy or accept the ups and downs of life in another country won't bother responding because they have better things to do than defend their decision.... I agree with msg 2.

As for me.. I have answered this before so go back and look.

Because the OP asked!

Don't you meant the ones who don't mind living in an opressed society have not got a gripe.

Perhaps it is because TRNC is like any other place to live, good and bad in parts, but the contradictions here are extreme. That which is good here is fantastic but some of the bad things are positively evil. Clearly, overall, opinions will differ as unfortunately some get more than their fair share of the evil. I try and embrace all the good things to the full but whinge and worry about the bad things as much as anyone would. However, within, and on reflection, I say to myself, I am nearly 70 years old and I am still here, with to date, no major health issues, which many others have to cope with.

Well whatever you think or feel about living here and opinions differ depending on what has happened to you and how things have panned out, it would be nice if the decision to stay or go is yours and not a banks.
