I normally arrive with say £75 of Turkish Lira and the rest in sterling (cash) Many places will take sterling but I would suggest that you change sterling into lira every 3-4 days at the exchange bureaux inn Girne.
Do not change your money into lira in the UK you will get a better rate in North Cyprus.
To a certain extent I disagree with simbas, his solution is only good if you have a Nationwide cash card and Nationwide creditcard. Unless you have these cards everytime you withdraw cash you will be charged a transaction fee.

hi mickb
the best currency to use is turkish lira, because if you use sterling to pay for food etc they wont give you a good rate and you will end up losing out,
secondly never change all you sterling into turkish lira in the u.k because again you dont get a good rate they only give you the bottom daily base rate where if you change your money in cyprus you will get a better rate it actually changes all the time in a day sometimes for the best and sometimes for the worse, only change and take a min amount of lira from the u.k for taxi-food whatever then change the rest while you are in cyprus via banks or change offices
not that i disagree with simba (i know you a WOMAN L.O.L) but takin money out on your card thru the hole in the wall in cyprus is not really a good idea cos you do get charged and plus they dont give you a good rate only works for simba cos SHE has a nationwide card and i presume they dont charge HER to access HER money abroad
regards to all

Sorry I called you a HE.
Everytime you take money out of a cash point abroad you will be charged someting between £2-3 each time and that certainly adds up.
I believe in giving the banks as little as possible, they are just greedy and don't give a toss about their customers. (sorry a bit of a rant there!!!!!!!!

Hi Mickb
I also only every take sterling, I will take just enough local currency to get me out of the airport, I have not been anywhere in the world yet where you do not get a better exchange rate in the country your visiting rather than changing it back home.
Regards
grahamlil
