Can anyone tell me has the Kyrenia bypass been finished yet, was there in September and it looked well on the way, however the 2 weeks we were there nothing happened I didn,t see any work at all done.

Does anyone know how far it will go when finished

grahamlil,

I have been trying to find out the same information via another post on this forum, but without much luck.

I think the reason you saw no progress was, because work has stopped and has done for several months.

Where did it end when you were there?

There must be some locals that know the latest.

Erkan, what's the story morning glory?

I used part of it about the same time as you grahamlil, took a bit of off roading and mountain treking ( but hey whats a hire car for - only joking) - great road but where it ended, I couldn't see which route it was going to take - I just hope the route has been planned and there isn't a problem they haven't foreseen!

Where's Erkan, "if anyone can Erkan can"

MCSTEVIET, not quite sure where it ended we kept picking up bit of it, then it went into just subbase which was very rough which was somewhere around turtle bay

I think Erkan has taken a deserved rest today. Even the mighty ones have to take time off now and again

Seriously, I would love to know more about the bypass. I amcparticularly concerned about whether or not it will eventually go through Lapta or whether the coastal road will be widened instead

It looked to me that the planning department hadn't decided which way the road should go either.

Looks like a can of worms,

JameB, luckily or NOT I had a jeep so just kept ploding on, that was until i decided to take a short cut accross the mountains towards Leffcosa, lovely scenery but the journey was a whole other story, the shortcut took a couple of hours, hey ho enjoyed every moment.

Has any part of the Western section been officially opened yet?

I too am interested in the Western route and where it will end up.

I was told somtime ago that it was due to join the coastal road at Alsancak.

If they don't make up their minds soon, all the land will have houses on it !!

the town bypass has stopped due to legal wrangles with land owners according to local papers. the road is going as far as Alsancak as i understand.

grahamlil

must of been a whole other road as turtle bay is east of town and the town bypass goes west?

Thanks Donty, so the bypass is just alleviating the bottleneck from the immediate West up until Kyrenia. Would you know if there are plans to extend it beyond Alsancak down to Guzerlyert?

grahamlil, I think the road you are referring to is the one going out to the Karpas. From what I understand the Turkish contractors went back to the mainland after a contract row. From what I understand the TRNC government now employs a few local workers in an attempt to finish the road.

At present there are no plans to extend the bypass beyond Alsancak to Guzulyurt. There is not the volume of traffic to warrant it.

1. new kyrenia bypass from kyrenia to alsancak. currently stopped due to legal wrangles

2. new east coast road to the karpas. stopped, dunno why (thanks ilc, i didnt know the firm had gone home!) (grahamlil's road i suspect)

3. nicosia to guzelyurt road widening to 4 lanes and improvement. work still progressing

hi there guys

you missed me!!! l.ol

ok the bypass has not finnished yet like what donty said there is some disputes between land owners around the alsancak region which been said they will soon be resolved

the east coast road was being built by a firm from the mainland thay packed up tools because there were money disputes (they were not reciving any monies for work rendered) between the company and the government but again it has been said a local company has been contracted to do the work but very slow last time i went past around 4-5 workers working on it

and simbas the new marina is loacted between esentepe and tatlisu in a area called kücükerenköy and work should have started on this early nov but has been pushed back till begining of the new year

i hope this all helps

regards

hi guys

lc they say the start of 2008 (normal or cyprus time l.o.l) and i know they have been saying that from the start of this year, but they are serious preassure to start because a lot of money has been pumped in to the surrounding areas around the marina these all have to be completed all in order (maybe not in this order) bypass-marina-karpaz link road and all the new developments going on in karpaz and new hotels so within a couple of years the girine side from karsiyaka on the west right up to tatlisu on the east will be thrieving then this will carry round to karpaz all the way down to bogaz (a lot of work going on here)-iskele-salamis then finally famagusta, then at last most of all the coastal resorts will be covered with easy links between each other

lets hope that what they are thinking l.o.l

regards

ukturk (erkan)

p.s you are right as soon as i returned it turned hot its like i got the midas touch l.o.l only kidding im just a mere mortal man!!! L.O.L

I have used the coastal road from Kyrenia to the "Main Road to Karpaz" and it looks pretty much finished except for the road lines and some rain drainages at the end of the path. I did not know that that part of the road was actually being constructed until i have used it a few days ago. Last year, the part between esentepe and the Karpaz main road was not open.

So, now there is a brand new road linking the "main road to Karpaz" with Kyrenia.(Unfortunately, some more work is needed at the last parts of the road, and for the road lines, barriers, rain drainages)

At one point it passes through the mountains with beautiful pine forests surrounding the road.So it was a lovely trip. But beware of the lack of road lines, barriers and the uncompleted parts near the end of the road.

I have not seen any construction going on with regards to the uncompleted rain drainages and road lines, yet the road seems to be pretty much complete.

For the Port Cyprium Marina, you can refer to the official web page which contains the answers to most of the questions one can initially have.

http://www.portcypriummarina.com/

This project is not a government project but it is undertaken by a Cypriot/British yachtsman that has represented North Cyprus in many Yacht rallies.
