It's a known fact that wherever you are and get pulled over for one thing the cops will search and find other things to add on and no one should expect it to be any different in the TRNC.

Here in the UK if you get pulled over for not having a valid car tax disk your car will be impounded and possibly crashed, you will also be fined up to £1000.

Had you had a valid tax disk maybe you would not have been pulled over in the first place and saved yourself 175YTL.

??????????????????????????????/

The police here don't know if you have a valid tax disc or not until you ARE stopped as you are not supposed to display it in your windscreen because the sun fades it !!

I know .they stopped me and told me to put it in glovebox.

and since when do the police in UK pull you up for no tax disc?....is it a new thing?

In the UK they were trialling a roadside system that could read and indentify expired/missing tax discs and I was told, ones that were fakes....by having an on-line database available to the mobile units of non-renewed/untaxed cars for almost instant recognition...

OK, big brotherish but you've got to admire the technology...

That is correct Groucho, the roadside laser reads the tax disc bar code, at the same time a camera reads the number plate, and the two are matched up with the database which is in the computer they are both connected to.

However, it is also now an offence in the UK to have the tax disc bar code obstructed, i.e. by window wiper blade.

Ahhhh but sparta, my car is also legal, handed over all the documents and fined for no mud flaps again on the Essentepe Road. Hands up if your car has mud flaps!!!

The UK system being referred to is ANPR (automatic number plate recognition). A camera (often mounted within police vehicles) reads the car number plate, this is fed to a computer within that vehicle, which checks the DVLA database to see if the car is reported stolen, is taxed, insured and has an MOT. Similarly whether there is any intelligence on the car i.e. terrorist, involved in burglary, other crime etc. If the car is not insured, the police can seize the car. The system depends on the accuracy of the downloaded database & when downloaded to the computer(it could be 6 months old). These ANPR systems are currently being updated so that the information is live from the DVLA computer. If you drive into central London you will almost certainly go through such a system.

KKJ your car is not legal if it doesn't have mud flaps and it would not pass the MOT. Stupid but unfortunately true!

Has anyone had their car "passed" without mudflaps...

Does the fitting of mudflaps apply to all cars...

Does the fitting of mudflaps apply to all 4 wheels or only the rear...

I drive a Toyota Spacio no mudflaps at the moment... Do I need to have them fitted...

Thanks...
