Can anyone recommend a heating engineer who can sort out my combi boiler which keeps extinguishing the pilot light? I'm sure its something fairly simple but it only fires up for 5/10 mins and then shuts down. Problem started this morning and we are fairly desperate...

landp

if it has a pilot light it must be quite old ,however it is probably gas valve or thermo coupling, hopefully it,s the coupler as the gas valve is pretty expensive.

I would strongly recommend that you do not use the number given in message 2. He is an English guy with a company in Catalkoy who is simply a rip off merchant. I can provide the reasons to anyone who wants them. So much for an earlier thread urging us to use ex-pat tradesmen. This piece of s--- is not worth spitting on so I suggest you do not contact himPerhaps this is why the advert in Cyprus Today doesn't carry his company name ( w---L---)

With reply to Message 7 .We as a company were recalled to the above customers house as his toilet wasnt flushing It was repaired previously by our company. We informed the customer that there was silt blocking his ballvavle and that this wasnt due to any bad workmanship, but due to the fact there was no inline filter on his supply. As you all know there is not a guarantee on any materials over here. But to aid the situation we said if the "Gentleman"was to supply another ballvalve we would fit it for free and not charge for the call. With this the "Gentleman" hurled a load of abuse down the phone about being fedup of being ripped off by by Brits He then told me he would be slagging our company off on your bulletin board hence the reason for this reply. We have many satisfied customers on the Island who would Im sure reccomend us for our competence and integrity .Im not looking for an arguement just stating the facts.Thank you.

Perhaps you should try telling the truth here. This toilet was "fixed" 6 weeks ago with new internal workings to the system. It now doesn't work and you told your workman to charge me 60ytl just to look at it to see what the problem was. He told me the unit he had fitted was faulty and you told him it needed a new one at my cost. I had someone else look at it yesterday afternoon who fixed it inside 10 minutes as it was only sticking. He adjusted it and it now works perfectly well. So yes you are a rip off merchant and have also cost yourself future work. 60ytl for a new ballvalve when someone else fixes it inside 10 minutes and doesn't even charge me. Guess what ---he is a Local not a failed Brit now trying to rip off people here

By the way you didn't inform me there was silt causing a block. You couldn't possibly know this without looking inside the ballvalve which you never did. Just an excuse to try and rip off more money.Probably explains why your advert in CT doesn't carry your company name!!!!!!!!!!!!

My toilet is now working perfectly F.O.C. and I hope others have been warned.

Without casting aspersions on the expat workforce, I would just say that all of the TC's that we have used have provided services second to none, turning up on time, some not charging for simple repairs, others not charging until we were happy with the repairs. I support the local economy and if you get to know the locals then they will always know a 'man that can'. If anyone wants any recommendations with regards to Plumbers, Painters, Plasterers etc in the Alsancak area then just e-mail me.

This thread is in great danger of being closed down as it could cause serious damage to viewers experiencing dangerous levels of boredom.

Unless this thread perks up a bit, and if silt blocking a ball valve is mentioned one more time, heads will roll.

You have been warned.

One of the purposes of this board is to give help and advice to people who ask for it. My original post was doing just that. I have no intention of hijacking a thread and was merely advising the original poster not to use a certain person as someone else had suggested.

I have always tried to use local workmen where possible and have usually found them reliable. However on this occasion I couldn't get my usual guy as he was away on holiday and had to resort to someone else. You are quite right though in what you say.
