Why not try a log burner. Make it a big one and you can heat a large area and it's nice to look at. Don't put it into a fireplace though as you will lose a lot of heat. Knock your fireplace down (if you have one) and replace it with a BIG log burner.

Tattlad, I would personally go for the Parafinn heater. they are a lot better than they use to be.

Initially, they want ignighting outdoors and then bringing inside but will solve your problem. The gas gives ones give out to much condensation.

In terms of heat/cost air conditioning units are the most cost effective. Inverter driven heat pumps deliver heat at a co-efficient of performance of around 4:1. This means for every 1kW of electricity you consume you get 4kW of heat. All other methods of heating, without exception, have a CoP of 1:1.

Not if you're on builders electric though Vaughan plus its relatively noisey and takes all the moisture out of the air. Plus we have had powercuts on and off since Sunday

There are pro's and con's to all heating systems.

A/C depends upon you having electricity available and at a reasonable rate. Humidification can be achieved easily enough with indoor plants, etc.

By not undersizing your units and selecting better quality manufacturers, the noise factor can also be overcome.

I've bought a couple of new paraffin heaters, just waiting to get them shipped, and I am going to look at the log burner option also, thank everyone and have a merry Christmas and prosperous new year.
