I can watch catchup but when I try watching live it says not available, I am sure someone can help me out there.

Because you are not in the UK and the BBC iPlayer knows that from your computer's IP.

You need VPN that fools it into, thinking you are in the UK.

I use MPN at £5 a month.

If you are watching catchupTV then I guess you must be using a VPN. Try using this little gadget for live uk tv.

The link for this is here:- http://myiplayer.com/downloads/MyiPlayerUK_vers03DesktopPlayer.exe you will not need to use a VPN using this gadget. But even with this wonderful gadget you will still need good bandwith from your isp

tonykyte I think there may be a problem from the BBC end. I can not be sure but it seems like it to me. I also currently can not get bbc1 or 2 live either from this

http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcone/watchlive/

or

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/tv/bbc_one_london/watchlive

I can get cbbc, cbeebies and bbc parliament on the above but not bbc1 or 2.

Have you tried live streaming of BBC1 or 2 in last hour or so Geoff? If not and its convinient for you could you try now using link below and report back for me ?

Is there anyone actualy in the UK who could try the below for me ?

Thanks rigsby for the update from the UK. It would seem that there is some generic problem atm with the direct BBC live feeds I would guess.

Juliamoons thanks for posting this alternative.

juliamoons,

This may seem like a silly question but is there anything else you have to download to make the gadget work? Im an hopeless technophobe and I can't get anything to work, I'm just opening endless windows.........

Is it a subscription service? as I havent been asked to pay anything.

Cheers

Hi Rigsby

Parliament is working fine here for me as well (currently showing Record review with date on it of 09/03/2012). CBBC and Cbeebies channels are also working. Just BBC1 and 2 currently not working as far as I can tell.

Again thanks for the info.

2 Labs

It is a free service. Just download the programme to your desktop, or find it in your download directory and copy it to your desktop. Double click on the icon, two frames will load up, one is for chat which can be closed. The other is for live tv which opens up and starts playing BBC1. You have options along the bottom for the different channels. Also, if you find it buffering too much you have the option to change the quality to low quality (which is still quite good). Also, the option to go full screen with it.

Enjoy

Juliamoons what bandwidth do you have to enable you to watch live tv without too much buffering?

Re msg 25 - I'd be interested to know this too as we are thinking of increasing our bandwidth shortly but not sure if it will be worth it unless we go for a much higher package.

with so many different providers out there promising all sorts of speeds, what 'plan' you are on really doesnt mean much. If you like to know what real speed you have at any moment, try http://www.speedtest.net .

You need a minimum of 2Mb RELIABLE package (and you shouldnt be using it for other downloads, like updates of such at the same time) to be able to watch TV.

I have 4mbs but you still have to turn everything else off. Skype any downloaders or updaters. But with that TV gadget which I gave links for above you can also switch to low quality which is not too bad and saves a lot of bandwith.

Thanks Julia. There's no chance of us getting 4mbs out here in the Karpaz (until Multimax venture out this far !). The iPlayer works fine on the low quality option - thanks for the link and info - but there's no radio channels on it. Do you know of any similar service for Radio 5 Live ? Thanks Clare

Islandgirl, most of the time. But there are those occasions, when it can be a bit iffy. I know that is not always down to bandwith as there are many other reasons why that can happen, most of which are out of your control. I shut down skype and any downloaders that are loaded before attempting it. Sunday was good watched dancing on ice and where the heart is was very good.

ClareW yes you can get Radio 5 and loads of others on another similar gadget, it is the original one that was used for uk tv but uk tv is not working on that one any longer. It's called Tiiveni TV and here is the link http://www.mediafire.com/?6g90kbos6xoiu2c It also has some US channels which work such as Country Music Television, not every ones choice but I love it. All VPN's are built into the channels you select.

Hey guess what they have just added a new channel Sky F1 for formula 1. I have just tried it and at the moment cannot get connected, but hopefully that will come good before the first race.

Last night I couldn't listen to the sports broadcast on Radio Five Live - the message only came on once with music the rest of the time but it said something about being out of the area ? Strange given the VPNs are built in. I'll try it again when there is a live sports broadcast. We managed to use the iPlayer on Channel Five but it was very broken up with buffering and freezing but perfect this morning for the BBC News so I guess it was the high online demand for the footie.

Wow that was the best watching F1 in English on the MyiPlayer without any buffering or streaming problems. I agree the quality was not quite as good, but hey still fantastic.

Hi Julia, Are you still able to use this link? I have tried to watch BBC and it is still buffering some 10 minutes later. I also tried it the other day and no luck. Perhaps it is because I only have 2MB.
