The simple asnswer may be "No", but it seems many thousands have (and not just expats). Wouldn't suit me, but clearly does many others.

My brother lives in the south, we have a place in the north is there any reason why I could not borrow the car for a week or so and use it in the north.

I could get put on his insurance so all would be legal.

Last year there was a crack down on south registered vehicles. A few people we know had their cars impounded and with the help of locals were able to return their cars to the south but from now on when they come over have to either have their own locally registered vehicles or hire cars from here. That was the ruling LAST year, who knows this year?

Were the cars registerd in their name or someone who lives in the south, if it is registerd in someone elses name would it not be like a hire car.
