Went to lemar yesterday to get some mince, got home & unfortunately it was off, smelt so bad.

So if your buying meat from Lemar be careful or just dont buy it from there at all.

Did indeed got my money back but more importantly wanted to know how they could sell meat so bad. Was just told sorry.

Such a big company that i think reporting them to authorities will solve nothing, MONEY talks in Cyprus, so thought it best to warn people instead.

Thats the trouble with mince - they mix the old with the new, I only get it at Supreme now as they mince it in front of you to order.

I always get my mince, cubed beef, lamb shish and chicken from the Chicken shop next to the Lemar in Karakum. Always fresh and very good. The mince etc is from Kibet which is the best meat.

The lads that own Fast Food in Alsancak have a butchers shop at the Lapta end of the village, get your mince from there.Nothing on display ,all meat is in the fridge till needed then they always mince it in front of me.Never had a problem there, lovely family always helpful.

Once bought a frozen pizza at Lemar from a cabinet marked "Sale Prices". When I opened the packaging at home the pizza was mush. When I complained, I learned that the freezer cabinet had broken down, and the item had been refrozen. The response was "what do you expect at sale price".

Last week, I opened a packet of prawns (bought the day previously) to defrost them at room temperature to find another glutenous, foul smelling, mush. Can you remember the Government spokesman's advice to the retail food industry when they complained regarding the recent rise in electricity prices ? It was "turn your refridgerators off at night". The mind as well as the taste buds boggle !

I watched the guy at Tempo spraying the mince with a red dye to make it look fresher - that was 5 years ago and I've never bought meat there since.

If you walk over the south there's no extra cost. Been today to the small Orphanedes, mince beef 4.95 per kilo & chops 3.98 kilo & prepared while I stood there.

I would still buy it here if it was priced right as I have never had a bad (excuse the pun) experience yet.

We don't touch any meat from here, buy in the south where the food is regulated.

Not sure what you mean by reguated blade but I was in Carrefour recently and you could smell that the fish was off before you walked in. As we passed the fish counter you could see that the fish was foul and definitely off. Not sure how they regulate this but fish is cheaper in the North if you are buying seabass or seabream or fresh salmon.

Ataturk, i do agree i don't buy from carrefore either as i don't like the smell of either their meat or fish counters.

What i mean is in the EU we have rules and regs about animals, meat, slaughter and care of food.

mince meat has to be mince in front of you never buy it already minced or mince it yourself - it is so dangerous !!!

I agree that Supreme is a good place to buy meat but even there you have to be careful. The butchers there often have a piece of older worse qulality mince tucked away at the top of their machine which they pop in when they think you're not looking. Two ways to be careful:- 1: The piece they cut off to mince for you should be wighed before it's minced. So if that piece weighs, let's say 600g then the mince at the end can't possibly weigh 750g unless they've added a) the mince that was already in the pipes of the mincer (and likely of a lesser quality) or b) he bunged in a piece from the top of the machine. This is standard and routine practice so the buyer must beware.

I had this problem a couple of times, complained like mad and now they know me and don't try it on any more.

We deserve what we pay for, nothing more, nothing less.

(Oh and importantly, you'll again know if they have done this because the mince that doesn't belong to your cut piece will be a different colour).

I went shopping in Lemar Karaoglanoglu once and they would not take the stirling I had.

So I just left all the shopping with her at the till saying "never had a problem with stirling before" I just drove to the next one and started again.

I don't shop there anymore, there are plenty of other shops/supermarkets about.

chr1ch/Msg 28:

Perhaps if you'd offered them 'Sterling' instead of 'Stirling' you'd have had no problem.

Having shopped at Lemar [Karaolanoglu] for 7 years I've never had them refuse to take/change 'Sterling'!
