Thank you to C44 members for your kind support. As you may know I had put a post up some months back trying to promote my first book The Green Line. Up until now I have managed to get 5 to 6 weeks of press coverage, 2 TV shows and a televised book signing session. Without your kind help and support this may not have been possible.

Thank you to everyone that have already purchased the book, I really do hope you enjoy it. If you haven't bought one yet, there are still a few copies left at the Bestsellers in Karakum.

Kind regards

Soner Kioufi

Star of TV, radio and bookshop now, soner! You deserve it. I think it is a great book too, and I know that you would appreciate hearing what others think, so please, all of you out there who have read it, do let soner know what you think, or post it on here. and if you haven't got the book, do pop in to Best Seller and buy one. It is a great little read and an insight into so many things. for me, the greatest mystery is 'Why did his mother decide to take the 3 boys on holiday against her husband's wishes?' I think that is answered almost at the end of the book.

Great stuff soner. You should be proud of yourself.

Hi Soner, so pleased all went well for you with the book.

Really hope we get chance to meet up before you return to the UK.

Only problem is I was beaten by the wife! She has grabed the book and is reading it first, whilst I wait patiently. Never mind, all in good time.

Kolay gelsin!

We bought the book last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. Nice to get a different, independent perspective on the history of Cyprus. Well done!

LOL, at least she can not tell you that it was a shame that I died in the end.....

Thank you all for your support. If you like the book then please do pass the word on to friends and family, facebook is also a good way of getting the word around - just type in the web address - the picture and content of the book will automatically be pulled up: http://www.the greenline.co.uk

Kind regards

Soner

Hi again Soner,

It was nice meeting you yesterday. And to echo others on this thread, I too really enjoyed the book: I have a six-year old son, and for much of the book, it was as if I was seeing the world through his eyes, albeit a world transplaced 40 years ... and of course in a "warzone" ...

Your later evaluations of the conflict were poignant : As on pages 75/76 where you wrote "Revenge is a powerful and cruel master; it's no wonder we often hear horror stories from both sides ... (on seeing your family kiilled) most of us would do things that previously would seem wholly unthinkable to us. The potential for cruelty and evil lurks within everyone of us."

Most of us would also agree with your sentiments in the epilogue: My father-in-law, like your grandfather lived in harmony with the Greek Cypriots. However, as you also wrote "arguements over who owns what, north and south, will continue to throw up barriers in negotiations aimed at reunification" ... unfortunately ...

One question though Soner - At what age did you decide (or were persuaded) to write this book?

Hi dippersgirl,

The book was posted in Gecitkale on the 12th March 2012, I went into post office on 13th March and it was still sitting on the counter, I was told it was going to Famaguster on that day. Now I must admit that from Gecitkale to Famagusta is a long way for a donkey and with all these new motorways being built it could also be very confusing. If the donkey does not arrive by next Saturday, let me know and I will deliver you a copy personally.

Send me an email with your tel number.

Kind regards

Soner

Hi Crumpy,

Msg 11/12 - It was a pleasure meeting you too, and thank you for coming down on the day with your wife.

To answer your question, I really knew that I would one day write a book when I was 8 years old and survived the 74 war, but when was always the question. As most people know, there is never enough time in the day when living on London, especially at an early age when you work all the hours in the day to pay your bills etc... Hence, when I started my business 12 years ago, I found that I had some spare time when business was a bit slow, so started to write about 4 years ago. I was therefore 40 years old when I finally decided to write the book. I mention this many time before, that I remember everything that happened in 1974 as if it was just yesterday, and 90% of the book is through the eyes of a child. I also admit that the adult in me has added opinions on the current issues, but this is not much. Ofcourse at 40 years of age I will not be writing like an 8 year old a

and if an 8 year old I would not have been able to write the book the way it has been written. I did my best to extract the information that I had in my head as best as I possibly could. I am not a writer, I am an ordinary person that wanted to tell my story and did it the best way I possibley could.

I hope this answers your question.

Kind regards

Soner

Giving your age away, soner. We can tell you are not a woman! But you ARE a writer, because you have written a book! After all what constitutues 'a writer'? Surely it is someone who writes.

If you are tyring to say that you are not a writer by profession, or trained to do so, then O.K, but neither was Shakespeare when he started. so you are a writer and one who is accepted by many as having a talent. As an old friend of mine used to say '|it has to be readable'. And your book is!
