Would you go to an allergy doctor or to a nose/throat and ear doc? Any ideas and who would you recommend?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Before wasting money going to a local 'quack', better to ask your local pharmacist.

It may be that 'Olbas Oil' [Eucalyptus], or 'Tiger Balm' will dilate the blocked sinuses and I suggest you try this first!

I had no joy with any doctor on this side, so I went to a ENT consultant on the south.

My allergies were so bad that I was beginning to despair!

He prescribed Nasonex nasal spray. It is a cortisone spray that is only effective locally (in the nose) and it has changed my life.

I use 2 sprays in each nostril morning and 2 again in the evening. I very rarely sneeze - I think Kleenex shares have dropped dramatically since I started using it

Whatever you do, don't get any injections from any Pharmacist on this side. Seriously, don't do it. I had injections from a pharmacy on the east side of Girne, one a year for 3 years and I ended up having plastic surgery on my arms two years ago. The injection is called Dexamethozone (not sure of the spelling) and it was only when I wondered why my arms, at the site of the injection, were getting deep holes in that I saw a surgeon on the south.

Apparently Dexamethozone can destroy muscle tissue - and it did. cont....

I now have 3" long scars on my arms but they will fade in time.

That, I am 100% sure, is better than having huge indentations on each arm.

The surgeon had to remove all the dead tissue and sew up the holes. Scary!

The pharmacist on this side never even asked when meds I was on or even told me the side effects (if he even new what they were.)

So try Nasonex - it's great.

Had a nose opp didn't sort the problem out!

My GP prescribes "BECONASE" spray for my sinus swelling and blockage.

It's not for long term use as it contains a steroid. I have been able to get it in the pharmacy's there.

Hope you can get hold of it! I know only too well how you are suffering, please try it, but check with the pharmacists first.

Have you tried taking Anti Histamine tabs? There is a Turkish brand called Avil [ 22.7mg] that cost 2TL and they work for several people I know who suffer badly with allergies.

WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Summertime, please be careful when trying recommended sprays. My experience with Beconase spray which was late 90's and a presbribed drug in the UK then, was on the first spray, I went into Ananphylactic Shock. Of course this is rare but it can happen with any drug. I am a long term sufferer of Asthma, Nasal Polyps, Allergies. Nasonex was prescribed for a number of years to me in the UK, it had little effect and caused migranes. I was treated by Professor Finn Rasmussen who specialises in Asthma and Allergy at Near East Hospital last year after becoming seriously ill with a lung infection. He treated me, changed all my meds and I have not looked back. Regards, Mrs Snakes

If you want alternative medicine, http://www.earthclinic.com is a helpful forum.

I have a true allergy to the house dust mite and was prescribed Nasonex later year, huge relief, much safer than Beconase, and haven't looked back. I've still got two scripts left over from Australia so don't know if you can get it in North Cyprus. Would highly recommend it.

You can get Nasonex here. Flixonase spray is another alternative and available here which is what I use but even then my nose is bloody and crusty from it but that is because I take double amounts. There is also a 10mg pill called OnceAir (known as Singulair in other parts of the world) which you take one every night, this is for Asthma and Allergies, but for me, it has increased weight gain. Google it and you will see its a problem for that with a lot of people, however, it is all part of my meds and at least I achieved circuit training and pilates this morning, which would be impossible with out these meds and others I take!!!

Summertime,Are you able to get hold of some honey made locally in the area in which you live.

i don't mean to compare you to my dog,but she always suffered badly with allergies during different seasons.Grass pollens, tree pollens, etc etc.the only time she was free was during the winter. The vet prescribed steroids, the only way she got relief until I discovered the honey.

Wherever we've lived Devon Scotland and here I've always mannaged to find a local supplier. Here we're in Esentepe and Remsi in the village keeps bees and makes his own honey.

I don't know whether you'd find a supplier more local to Ozankoy.

It would be worth a try a natural remedy rather than medication.

It's worked 100% for my dog

Dr Hasan Mete at NEU. He is an ENT doc/surgeon and specialises in sinus problems. Really nice guy and speaks excellent English. Would recommend him without hesitation.

I also suffer very badly from the pollens but it seems to be my eyes that are worst hit, I can cope with the sneezing but the sore, itching eyes are a big problem. Have tried lots of different drops and I take antihistamine tabs for most of the year, but I just wondered if anyone else has the same problem and could recommend some good eye drops.
