I'd like your views

We come to NC 3 plus times per year, on our last vist we where sitting having a beer at Sunset taking to Un (the owner) He asked what my hobbie was at home, when I told him sea fishing he informed me that they did sea fishing from Sunset and would I be interested in going out, now to put you in the picture, in the UK we would pay £45 pounds for a 10 hour trip with a minimum of 6 hours fishing depending on how far we went out. my family consists of 3 girls aged 12 - 15 plus the better half and me, with just little me fishing for a 7 hour trip and approx 4 hours fishing Un told me the trip would cost me £500 £100 per person, when i'd picked myself of the floor he then went on to tell me that the first 2 Tuna would belong to sunset and if we got a 3rd I could buy it for £50 (how kind of him) No I did'nt go out before you ask but I would like to no what you think to Sunsets rip off prices

Its no surprise and they wonder why they do not get any customers. I love see fishing from boats but in 4 years only been once with a friend (at no cost) didnt catch anything either.

At the price sunset was charging I'd be better off buying boat in UK and paying import tax

No wonder their are no customers in the "Plaice". Oh my "cod" £500 "Eel " get no punters at that price. "Dab" your eyes and dont "carp" on about it otherwise you will go "grayling" just thinking about it i know its a pain in the "wrasse" but their are plenty more boats in the sea.

Unfortunately this seems to be the mindset of some TC businesses when dealing with us foreigners.

Perhaps they think that if we were stupid enough to buy TRNC property in the first place then we will fall for anything !

If business is slack, some seem to think that the way around this is to increase their prices to maintain their level of turnover!

And as a result customer numbers plummet further....and so the cycle continues.

Acapulco Beach were guilty of this when the entrance price for non-residents went from 10YTL to 15 YTL right up to 20YTL per person......very expensive for a family.....particularly when you are going to be ripped off again with the food and drink prices.

You did the right thing with Sunset ,Taz ,by voting with your feet....and publicising your experience on here to warn others.

Cronos,

Just reminded me of my experience at the acapulco crammed in like sardines 60 ytl to get in and 20 ytl for a tiny pizza. Much the same happened in blackpool where i live people ripping off holiday makers. Doesnt happen now their are no people to rip off. TRNC needs to learn quick and not bite the hand that feeds, namely us brits.

You are all correct with your comments, Un the Owner of Sunset is suffering from his own prices, most of his other business are for sale including his house, boat in Girne harbour etc, did offer to buy Sunset from Un which made his eyes light up, but after looking further into the purchase it turns out the land and buildings are on lease with not many years left so we pulled out.

here is an idea, everyone on this site places money in pot, buys its own place then everyone supports each other, Fantasy or is it, lets place a new post and see the replies, interesting?

Taz666,

I spoke to a guy in the south who set up in paphos taking anglers into the hills to fish for carp in what were basically large irrigation tanks. He bought some cheap rods and an old transit took 12 people out most days 6 hours fishing with water and a kebab thrown in £45. Making around £350 a day after costs, my idea of a good job

Thats sounds about right, he's charging a good price and getting custom back, so why is in NC all common sence goes out the window by charging massive prices then wonder why we dont come back
