Yes. I reckon, depending of usage of aircon and electric cooker.

Water per month.... 10tl, depending which area you live. I live in alsancak.

Electric per month. Winter around 150tl again depending on what heating you use (I use gas)

Summer it goes down to about 50/60tl Gas is, at the moment 40tl per bottle. Lasts about 2 weeks in one room on 2 bars.

Food.... again, depending on what you eat. I usually eat at home and I spend around 250tl per month for me and the cats.

Autobus to town is cheap at around 3/4tl per journey... based on Lapta/Girne route.

One can live very cheaply and well here depending on the lifestyle. I have lived here for almost 6 years and have managed on around a £1,000 per month, give or take a bit.

Robin

If you hunt around on this site you will find a significant number of topics and strings which will give you a really good idea of living costs here (plus all the hidden extras!).

You will find significant variation and you just select what best suits you. I think you are considering renting which is a sensible choice.

My sixpenny worth - I think £1000 per week for careful use of utilities and local food purchases for an elderly retired couple is a good starter but you will then need to add on rent, car(if you have one) and medical bills. You also need to 'future proof' with some savings in case a new tax hike comes in (fairly routine) and utility bills increasing in costs.

At the end of the day you cut your (financial) cloth to suit your needs...

Good Luck

Yes the £1,000 per month includes everthing. I rarely use more than that. I seldom eat out, prefer to eat at home.
