Hi Paul and Paul - happy New Year to you both

I am having problems with my computer so can't open the Famagusta file, however, I read today on BRT that the CTP party is going to call an early election in 2009 not the planned 2010.

Presumably the election will now take place before any settlement. Why would they do that?

There is a good chance that they could lose to the UBP, and that would likely mean that the UBP would look to renegotiate any settlement terms that would have been agreed up until that point.

Thanks Paul

I think you are right. It may be a self sacrifice (for the CTP) but it will give the TRNC more power in the negotiations. Nice move on the chessboard

Have not got it to hand but the comment I read was that Mr Soyer expects an election in 2009, did not specify when. Keeping options open.

I can not see what benefits there are to an election for the CTP unless it is a way of getting out of the mire ASAP. It is generally believed that they are so bankrupt, of money and ideas. So may be it is a ploy to get re elected??????

Who knows!
