my pc has been running really slow for ages, now is driving me completely mad!

It takes ages to start and then runs really slow, is there anyone out there that can do a bit of tidying up and speed it up a bit?

This is before I even put on the internet.......

thanks

A good way to start is as follows .....

First, delete all unnecessary temporary files. Download Ccleaner (free) to do this for you - http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

Second, defrafment your hard drive. Download a free tool to do this here - http://www.piriform.com/defraggler/download

Thirdly, use Ccleaner to tidy up your computers registry. This is a 'database' of all the setting your computer needs to rum properly. Over time it can become cluttered with no longer needed settings. This slows it down on startup particularly.

Lastly, ensure that your virus protection is fully up to date and then run a full system scan.

If you've done all that and things still seem slow, come back and ask again!

Good advice from Andy.

As an alternative, download a free trial version of AVG PC Tuneup, run all of it's functions and if you like it......Pay for it.

Brilliant Program.

Folks, Try Baseline Computer in Kyrenia, they have excellent trained staff and they will do a complete health check on your machine for a very cheap price. I have never been disappointed with them. Call their shop on 0392 816 0022.

You really do not need to pay people to clean up a PC/Laptop. A little patience is all that is needed. If all else fails (and I mean "all else") use your reset disk and "start again".

Much cheaper than some charlatan who will probably put fake software on your machine and shrug his/her shoulders when it all goes T*ts up

If you have more than one anti-virus program on your computer you should delete one of them.

Try this FREE Update Checker...

http://www.filehippo.com/updatechecker/

Been using this for a while, never had any problems.

You can also run Disk Cleanup from your Start Menu.
