Hi all,

If you are going to donate via the bank (yours to the Turkish Bank Ltd), you'll need to add 0 to the acct.number eg. 07092674 and don't tell your bank it's going to North Cyprus or abroad. The Turkish bank may waive charges as it's going to an orphange (I told them). I don't know if it is correct but I gave the name of the account as 'SOS children's orphange'.

ilovecyprus i have sent you mail with details, not sure why i never received your mail.

Lesleyd their website is down at the moment but just to give you the basics, the Lefkosa village is home to 58 kids ranging in age 2-16. The under2s are placed with foster parents until they reach 2 then they are moved into the village. There are 11 houses in the village and the kids are split between the 11. Each house has it own full time mum who does everything a normal mum does. The kids go to state schools and also to out of school clubs just the same as other kids in the community. They stay in the Lefkosa village until they are 16 and then they are moved into Girne to the youth centre. Here they are seen through university and helped into independant living. Although the cut off age is 24 for the youth centre the SOS never give up on these kids and they are family for life. All this takes money and although they do receive funding from the SOS international and also some funding from the goverment it is never enough. They also have a community programme where they try and help to keep families together before they get to the point of having to give the kids up. Until recently most of their fundraising has been aimed at the Turkish community but we are hoping to raise awareness amongst the rest of the community.

They do a wonderful job and the first time i went to visit i thought i would come away with a trail of kids behind me but i came away with such a lump in my throat because of how happy they all seemed.

If anyone wants any further information then please just ask.

Teresa

'orphanage' -don't know what an 'orphange' is. Izzet- need that edit facility asap.

The SOS children's village sounds wonderful, the children seem so cared for and up to 24!!!/family for life.

Hi Simbas, I was referring to my typo error rather than not really knowing what 'orphanage' means!!! (I put 'orphange' twice, maybe it was a spello).

In actual fact an 'orphan' also refers to a child who has been abandoned and/or not adopted by another family. I used 'SOS children's orphanage' as a reference to the bank (less likely to charge for the transfer of funds) though I believe 'SOS Children's Village' is the actual name.

But thank you anyway.

Hi Teresa

Thanks for some info regards this charity, but not received any email from you as yet anyway. Sounds a very nice place for these kids to be, even lots better than some in the UK, well like I said I will do my best to try and raise some funds for this good cause. Keep up with the good work.

Hi Simbas,

You're correct English is my second language, couldn't speak a word of it when I started nursery in the UK aged 4 but it didn't take me long to master it thereafter. I hadn't realised that I'd given the impression my English was so weak in all my various postings.

I really don't know what I've said to offend you.

Littlenige, my apologies, it's gone off-topic but at least that has kept it bumped up.

My original post was to be helpful to those who might be considering making a donation to SOS via the bank.
