Can any one tell me the cost of a new 4mt dish+the costs on installing. Also can you buy a sky decodeing box in Cyprus, so you only then need to carry the card when visiting.

Thanking you.

You can use SKY card in any skybox but viewing is only limited to basic channels (Entertainment Mix) when used on any skybox..

You need to use the skybox the card was initially registered to in order to view premium channels such as SKY Sports and SKY Movies.

You can watch terrestrial channels such as BBC1/2/3/4,ITV,ITV+1,ITV+4,Channel4,FIVE on a 4.2m dish without a subscription or monthly payment.

I prefer to quote a price after a free site survey...

If interested, please contact me on info@skycyprus.com or skycyprus@gmail.com for more details.

I do know that Maisie Brown's bar in town wants to sell her Sky dish etc, so maybe good idea to pop in to see her.

Hi Brian

the poster is asking about 4m dishes.. nearly anyone can setup im dishes.. only a REALLY skilled sat installer can get a 4m to work and pull in BBC / ITV 24/7 365 days a year - except in downpours / sandstorms

The best man for 4m + dishes in Cyprus is Iceman

If you are going to buy a second hand BIG dish be sure

1/ it pulls in BBC/ ITV 24/7

2/ get it carefully dismantled and re-erected by a professional... BIG dishes must be a perfect parabolic shape, or you will have wasted your money.

Hi Mark,

I read the title as 'equipment' so being aware of better types of receiver for fringe reception will be useful - exroyal is aware from post #1 that a 4m dish will be required, probably from researching other posts.

"The best man for 4m + dishes in Cyprus is Iceman" = 'Icey is deff the man for the job' - confirmation of Gordon's post #2

Iceman installed ours (new) long time back, lifetime warranty on all his installations, good quality LNB, with 4 outputs to different rooms or for Sky+, no payment until complete - http://www.skycyprus.com

As you rightly say Mark, the BBC channels do drop out or fragment in bad weather, one thing I noticed watching the snooker though was that the interactive channels seem a stronger signal than the regular channels.

Ironically, the least interfered with channel we get seems to be the low budget old movie channels True Movies and True Movies 2, we also can't get E4, but get E4+1 no problem.

Hi Brian

I posted as your link referred to a lot of ( sorry) possibly misleading info re SKY receivers, LNBs, etc.

IF you seek good BBC / ITV reception - them MODERN Pace and Thomson receivers tend to be BETTER at pulling in the low band Astra 2D signals !

The Best all rounders were the Pace Javelin ( Mini ) and Pace 2600..

The reason the interactive channels are better is that they are not broadcast from the weakest Astra 2D ... It is possible to watch Grandstands Final Score all afternoon on a small dish on interactive...

Many BBC Radio Channels, BBC News 24 and Parliament don't need "big" dishes, either ... 1.8m fine..

No harm in confirming Iceman's pedigree now is there ;)

Donkey re:msg 10

Do not forget there will be a cost for removing and re locating that dish the 4.2m dish.

Usually the seller does not mention this and the buyer ends up with the extra cost.

spud1 re:msg 11

The best receiver i can recommend to you is the Pace 2600C1 which is a discontinued model.

Due to its very sensitive tuner, it is the most sought after model for use in fringe areas.

Since the model has been discontinued it is impossible to buy new but plenty second hand units on ebay.

Hi techtrader

I have not had the chance to test the new pace HD box so i cannot comment on it.

The few reports i read on this model suggests that Pace has designed a better HD box than Thomson.

The Thomson HD which was the first HD box released for SKY was full of probems in the begining but later on most of the software related problems were solved with software updates.

If you can receive FIVE on your present setup are likely to receive the HD channels on Astra 2A South and probably even HD on 2B South.

Hi Iceman

I can report that the Pace HD and even the new Amstrad HDs are performing well in Cyprus
