There are many posts on here and indeed many complaints in life about Rip offs, but what exactly is a rip off? For me if a price is advertised up front and the product/service is as described then regardless of the price it's not a rip off It's certainly not definitely a rip off if the price in one country is higher than in another, nor for that matter if the price is cheaper 10 yards down the road. Nor can it be a question of amount. If someone charges twice the price of another supplier then presumably they will go out of business in the long run. What do you think guys? Paul

I think you have the thing about right. You can use all sorts of economic theory to try to understand pricing ie laws of supply and demand, cost benefit analysis etc. At the end of the day there is no logic to how people purchase certain items. The discussion on Roses Chocolates is a prime example in that there was no logical reason for the buyer to pay such a stupid price, the item is not a neccessity it is a "luxury good". Therefore to call rip off is totally unacceptable, the person knew the price and had a choice. My opinion is that there are very few genuine case of being ripped off in the shops here it is usually a case of the person leaving the thinking head at home and then blaming somebody else afterwards.

Agree. Likewise, if you go to, say, a restaurant and are disappointed with the quality of food/service, then surely you don't go there again. If, in your opinion, the meal was considered a "rip off" then it's once bitten and twice shy. Have to say, agree about the Roses chocs!!!! Incidentally, they were virtually "giving them away" over here this Christmas with the supermarket wars. Regard & Happy New Year. J
