Hi Can someone please recommend a good advocate in NC. By good ,I mean one who answers e-mails and generally looks after and keeps you informed. Also ,what if any are the pitfalls and costs of changing advocates

We were living in Uk whilst dealing with buying our villa in Cyprus. I've heard that Naomi Mehmet is good, but we used Sener Law firm. They replied to emails usually within a couple of hours, certainly within the day. If you need details, let me know and I'll add her email address and telephone number. An added bonus is Ayhans english is excellent. Good luck with however you choose.

I have used Gunesh Mentesh for a number of years and always found him to be excellent. I would stress though that I only deal with him and not any of his minions! Unlike many of the other legal bandits here, he is a barrister, previously practicing in the UK and is also a QC. He's not necessarily the cheapest but I've always been more than happy with him.

negnick. You are correct that it is the contract and the contractual obligations of second and third parties that present problems. Enforcement is at very best difficult. Any contract based upon lew and Courts of TRNC can only really be enforced in those courts. Often it is said that TRNC law is based upon UK law. OK but you try and take action in a UK where TRNC law has juristiction. TRNC courts are stacked high with contractual cases. It is the TRNC advocates that prescribe TRNC juristiction that cream the litigation fees. Simple rule..money talks. Do not part with any until service, product, or delivery is facilitated. Secondly..it is not rocket science to read and alter any contract. Do not sign or exchange until you are happy that your intersests are protected. I would not take advice from any advocate in TRNC. Ask your advocate questions in writting, always confirm the answers and proceed with caution.

Used an Advocate based in Nicosia and recommended by a third party with no ties whatsoever to Builder/Developer/the area in question.Only used one from Nicosia because i couldnt find one any further away from Bahceli than that.Reasonably pleased given the work involved, gobsmacked that it is down to the land registry to do a search on the property and that basically unless you specify a particular search or thing you want doing then the Advocates dont do it ,so what are you paying for !But given the property purchase system in TRNC and the effectiveness of your contract as previously mentioned its no good avin the best gun in the world if you aint got no bullets to fire !!!!!!!

Thank you all very much, glad to see some satisfied customers, and hopefully I can become one. Just one small point, do you envisage a problem with old lawyer being awkward with paperwork when handing over to new lawyer. Negativenick, I appreciate the contracts are nearly worthless but we have to work with what we have, and at least a decent lawyer might keep me informed of what is happening or about to happen, good or bad.

Stewy has a point ! Given my time over again, i'd have put my dosh in the bank and rented.... I'd still have a roof over my head, plus £500 p/m profit (after paying the rent)and the problem of property ownership would be my landlord's not mine. Nick

Seems like the same names come up so thats good enough for me. NN you are right about deeds, but by at least getting a decent advocate we can get the best out of a bad job.Its the non existant contact that is annoying me Bachelibelly and Pilgrim, had been told after the event that getting advocate in Famagusta or Nicosia was best as they dont have the family ties in Girne, so avoiding the scenario where the lawyers brother is married to the buiders sister who is the second cousin of the estate agent.
