Geoff and All, It was the header tank,i am left scratching my head, because i have not been in my lofts for months,if i had,i would have no reason to touch the heating system. It makes me wonder how the heating run for so long (me the expert ) with it turned off. I have written down all the advice given by the forum members,it might come in handy at a later date. Thank you all, have a very good 2009

Just one more point, did you say that you had turned the pump up to a higher setting? if so put it back to where it was otherwise the system could start to overpump back into the expansion tank.

Windmill..pays you check every3/4 months and give ita run during the summer for about and hour to see if anything crops up,cos its a bit easier to get a plumber in summer..Dont you have any sort of cover on it...I am covered through my bank because I pay an extra premium I get all sorts of insurances.i.e breakdown cover on the car. failure of heating systems and plumbing problems, electrical problems. Might pay you to look into something like that..

Isnt life exciting Dont send the bill,we will have a pint when i come over,my wife is good like that. Take care |

Paul & Jean, Thanks for that,as you would know,it was really cold last night,we jump into bed early (no we did not ) with a book (then we did ). I will not be caught out again as regards heat,i am going to buy a couple of halogen as a back up,or is that the word for, chlorine, iodine etc, does it matter,no,but someone told me you need to sit on top of them to feel the heat. Enjoy your new years eve,and have a great 2009 Take care

Windmill..Living in the UK,you must always make sure you have cover for the essentials, gas ,water ,electric, heating. Not as expensive as you might think...Because there is nothing worse than the cold and the dampness when things pear shaped ..
