A warning to all, we have a 3 ton watertank underground and we have not been out to Cyprus for 9 months, before leaving we turned of the mains @ the meter and assumed everything was OK. Wrong. Somebody on our site had turned our water back on whilst we were in the UK and the ballcock in the underground tank stuck open, Result was a water bill for £2400 GBP !!

Further investigation reveals that most builders use the cheapest and substandard ballcocks, so be advised to have a good quality one fitted at you earliest conveniance.

Pretty standard problem with these Turkish ballcocks (no pun intended). I am often shutting off the water to overflowing water tanks in the complex where I live.

If you added up the collective water loss it would be shocking in such a dry climate and expensive as well

A plumber told me you can get English ones that are much more reliable from a few hardware stores which should fix the problem.
