hi there i would suggest go down to lefkosa to get some good deals i personally got vestel air com units in all my properties they vary in price to the output power of the unit (b.t.u) for example a 9000btu will cool/heat a room size of around 15sqm these prices start from around 500-600ytl fully fitted around 150pound if you have bigger rooms then you can for a 1800btu unit you can actually find some air con units that are cheaper but i wll recommend that you do go for the cheap nasty options because even thou you might get a good deal its all about the after sales service for example if something ever goes wrong with my units i call the service centre and within the day they come out to my straight away, this mite not be the case with cheaper units hope this helps regards ukturk p.s this a list of air con units that i know are good demir dokum the best - vestel - regal - arcelik - beko - samsung - lg

ukturk I thought that there was only about 2.50 YTL to the £ so that would make the price of a 500YTL unit £200

When I was out in sept I saw some units being installed - they were using R22 refrigerant - Whilst this refrigerent has been around for years and works really well, it is being phased out in the uk (because it is HCFC and not environmentally friendly) - I haven't installed any R22 units for 2 years, firstly it was replaced with R407c (HFC) which was temporary and now by R410a (also Hfc) . If your looking for a/c units I would try to source R410a units because replacement parts will be available for longer than R407c and R22. Another big advancement in a/c over the last year or 2 is inverter driven compressors - some boffin will tell you the electronic side of this, but simply - instead of a big surge of power to start the compressor (lights dim in house) the unit actually starts at a lower power consumption than it runs at. They are more efficent and very quiet when in use - this could mean you were able to run maybe 4 or 3 units instead of 1 or 2 units off your generator in the event of a power cut (depends on size of units and of genny!!). These units will be more expensive than old r22 units will be cheaper to run, swings and roundabouts really - up to you! JB

hi all james i noticed that mate my older air con units especially my 2400btu air con units my lights dim and are bit noisy compared to some of my newer units which were a bit more costly in my other properties where the lights dont dim and are not noisy and they also have this plazma option where it cleans the air of smoke etc (well thats what i was told) l.o.l regards ukturk

Hi all, Grahamlil, not all R410a units have an inverter driven compressor. Most ranges in the uk are nearly all inverters now except for budget ranges. Erkan, on lot of units now you can switch on the Plasma filter, it supposedly charges the air that passes through it (with negative ions I think ) to replicate fresh non-poluted air. It must work but I'm like you on it, a bit cynical! Dodger, No problem mate, Yes I do - for my sins! I don't know much about the specific brands in the Trnc, but nearly everything now is built in China. I prefer to install Mitsubishi, Toshiba & Lg are very good and reasonable.

hi all james the three brands you mentioned are really good units especially the lg style range (flat panel looks like a lcd t.ve l.o.l) but in cyprus they are the most expensive and parts are hard to get hold off as i was saying demir dokum - vestel - regal - beko - arcelik these are all reasonabley priced and the service is second to none parts are cheap even thou you get a 3 year guarantee on the unit (parts and labour) and 10 years guarantee on the box outside so you cant go wrong no probs paul and regards to you paul take care all erkan (ukturk)

Yes, Erkan, the units are probably of a similar standard - but the aftercare sounds really good there- I don't get that kind of back up from my suppliers over here! The LG Artcool range are really good - You can put your own picture into one of the units. I have fit a lot of them and haven't had any problems (touch wood!)

hi keith firstly mate find out the make for me then the exact btu for the unit and ill will tell you if its over priced what i can tell thou this is expensive a typical 9000btu unit costs 500-700ytl depending on what make you get, so if you calculate 3 units at lets say 700ytl (for a good make) each thats 2100ytl about 800 pound, also mate fitting is done free of charge by the service team of the makers of the unit, so lets say you go down to a normal electrical shop and you buy a vestel air con unit, the vestel service team will then come down and install it in the price you paid for the unit from the shop hope this helps ukturk p.s you a lot of people do is get the developers to put it in for them to save hassle and time therefore paying a extra, why do that when you can go down to any shop do a deal with the shop and you save money, you can find any electrical shop sell units like vestel in girne or go down to lefkosa for a better deal

hi there keith in my view i think thats a bit expensive especially if he cant tell you the make, what they normally do isbuy cheap so they can earn a bit of money of that to what ill do is wait till you come over then do a bit of price comparison in shops, i would say for a good price and good quality is to go for either vestel or regal these are name brands from turkey and you cant go wrong with them you get a 5 year guarantee with the outside box and a 3 year guarante with the box for the inside hope this helps you mate good luck erkan (ukturk)

Just to let you guys know we moved here in July 2006 and done a lot of research on AC units/ I found out that the beko and arcelik units are made by LG. If you go the on the lg website and compare you will see the same models/ Just make sure you see what is being fitted first as our 18000 btu unit was different and made by beko
