Extracts from the web but where can I buy such a Rolf Corona heater here?

"Pure" kerosene heaters have a dual combustion unit (catalytic converter) and burn very cleanly and efficiently -- up to 99.9% fuel efficiency. ...

The secret at the heart of this heater is its world patented burner and vario turbo technology. Vaporised fuel is burned in the lower chamber with vapours and exhaust gases then rising into the upper chamber to be mixed with pre-heated oxygen. The secondary combustion which takes place results in maximum heat without smell, minimising fuel consumption and reducing water vapour emission.

Portable Economical Heat - Ideal for use in Conservatories, Living Rooms, Offices and Industrial Units.

Features include - AUTO IGNITION - for ease of lighting, HEAT CONTROL - you decide how warm you want to be, FUEL GAUGE - to see how much fuel is left, REMOVABLE CARTRIDGE FUEL TANK - refuelling is quick & easy, ANTI-TILT DEVICE - instant shut off.

We are running (as I write) a Toyoset Kerosun OMNI 230 paraffin heater bought 3 years ago in the South, cost then approx £130 (Cyp£ at the time). In euros they will be more expensive now I suspect. This is the highest output paraffin fire you can buy - 23,000 btu. They also sell Corona fires over there but although the Corona was dearer, we were steered in the direction of the Toyoset. You can buy Zibro KR106 in the North - similar fire but it may cost more. We also have 4 other paraffin fires in various sizes/shapes & output which we use at different times depending on the outside/inside temperature.

Hi scruff,

Would be interested to know where you purchased your kerosene heater from in the South. I think we will need to purchase one soon.

Thanks for the info, I am looking at Kerosene/Paraffin heaters as a supplement to our LPG heaters. I would presume that Kerosene and Paraffin are the same fuel and are these fuels available at petrol stations?

The best shop in the South is on the 2nd or 3rd roundabout on the main road after turning left at the big church on the way to Orphanides. This shop also sells Electrolux & other electricals & is on the same roundabout as the motorbike shop on the left hand side as you leave the roundabout. The shop also sells spares for the fires. Also check out the Zibro KR106 available this side - it uses a little less fuel per hour but may not have a lower heat output.

There is no comparison between the heat output of a gas fire & a kerosene fire. Kerosene fires win hands down. We stopped using gas fires after winters 2002 & 2003.

Kerosene is available in most petrol stations but not all. Look for Gaz Yagi at 1.7 YTL per litre.

Several friends with CH also use Kerosene fires in preference to or to supplement CH because CH is so expensive to run.

I have since discovered that to convert btu to kilowatts divide by 3.4 or vice versa

Kerosun Omni 230 = 23,000 Btu = 6,800 watts.

Zibro KR106 = 4,700 watts = 16,000 Btu

Apparently in Karaoglanoglu somewhere. However it seems they may cost megalira. They may be cheaper in Lefkosa.

When checking the Toyotomi website, I discovered on the links page that Zibro are an offshoot of Toyotomi.

The Toyotomi product DC100-B looks identical to me to the Zibro KR106.

http://www.toyotomi.jp/english/products/kerosene_h/double.html

The main difference between the OMNI 230 & the Zibro 106 is that the former is convector fire & the latter is a radiant fire. I personally prefer the radiant fires. All our smaller fires are radiant.

Tektan price - no comment. It's what I suggested in message 12. Try Lefkosa or South I'd say.

KEBS in Lefkosa advertise Zibro fires on TRNC TV.

There is also another supplier In Lefkosa.

Hopefully you know where the big Nicosia sports stadium is? (at the first set of traffic lights on the Nicosia-Ercan road) turn right at the traffic lights (Cyprus Life hospital will be on your left).

Continue on this road past Levent Honda Garage, then on the left you will see Marmara Ezcanesi, it is just past here on the right. If you get to Istanbul perde you will have just gone past it.

It is a tiny shop at the end of a block of shops, the heaters are in the window, didn't notice the shop sign.

His name is Mehmet, the number is 0533 863 3587

The main models he stocks are

FF30

FF55

R417

KRA106

Laser 73

Firstly when buying anything here in the TRNC, always, always ask for a discount. You should always be able to obtain 10% & sometimes more.

I'm glad that all that have bought paraffin heaters so far are pleased with the heat they give out. Just remember though that they need the wicks burned off about every 6 weeks if they are used daily. I think the Toyotumi website gives details off how to do this.

When your fuel tank is empty, put the fire outside & light it. You need a still day with minimal wind. You let it burn until it goes out. You then lightly brush the wick to get rid of all the hard deposits. You will know when this is required because the handle that turns off the fire will become stiff.
