I have not been a signed up member of this forum for very long, but have "lurked" for a couple of years. On several threads now we have the thorny internet-wide issue of moderators and their powers. There is a danger that the moderators become the scapegoats for everyone's ills. Posters are "leaving"(temporarily),and supposedly taking their business elsewhere due to claimed excessive moderation on this Board. They are almost becoming Board martyrs and adopting a victim mentality. I am no apologist for heavy handed overbearing moderation, but they have a difficult job to do and cannot be all things to all people. Based on what I've seen on other forums (including Non-Cyprus related) I reckon the Board rules are fair and reasonable and can be adhered to whilst allowing lively debate about numerous topics irrespective of the different viewpoints expressed. The increase in the number of moderators has caused its own problems...it can be a double-edged sword that they can all

act independently and are NOT a committee.Individual bias will always be an issue. However, these people have accepted the post and given up some of their time to serve this Board. I imagine that most of them have jobs and lives outside Cyprus 44 and they do their best whilst they are logged on here. I don't know whether it IS a rule on here but I think it would serve us all well if every moderator put their name to their moderation each time, and gave a brief reason fo doing so. Other members then could form an opinion about each moderator and whether they were in fact overbearing , over-zealous or dictatorial as some have claimed!

Cronos I agree with your last paragraph 100%, lets have some transparency here. As for your reference to Martyrdom, I hardly think someone choosing not to post on this board gives them martyrdom status or makes them a victim - it's their choice.

I am totally in agreement with cronos and comeoneileen. The people continually moaning about the moderators are in the main the same posters who have had posts moderated. Let the Moderators get on with doing the job they were asked to do. As long as a legitimate reason is given why a particular post has been moderated then we will all be able to move on and enjoy the forum.

Doyen I agree with what you say in the main. I had a couple of post's to Captain Pugwash moderated by AJ but it didn't make me throw my toys out of my pram and start complaining and I have asked AJ to rethink his resignation ( see other thread). I do think they should give a brief reason though if moderating a post ( as AJ did to myself by a polite e-mail which caused no problem to me at all). When Mackoazy was spouting his disgusting verbal threat's I was surprised nothing was done, as were a number of other's, but now they whinge when something is done. A no-win situation methinks!!!!!!!! Happy New year to you.
