I have just had a call concerning a family from Karsiyaka who have lost everything in a house fire.

There are 4 children 2yr girl, 7yr girl, 8yr boy and 12yr boy. Please if you have anything you can donate to this family then please ring me on 05338673530. The most important things needed are beds and bedding and clothing but they need everything from the basic kitchen utensils and furniture.

Please help if you can.

Vicki thanks for your thoughts, worst possible start of a new year for anyone and it is so cold here at the moment. Hopefully with the help of all we can get this family back to some kind of normality as soon as possible.

Can I echo Vicki

Tom IAH

Teresa - is this a Cypryot family or Expats?

If "local" they probably can't afford insurance so may be in dire straights

Teresa - what an absolutely terrible start to the new year for this poor family. Unfortunately, we are in the UK and so cannot be of any practical help. I wish them all the very best and I trust people will be their usual, generous selves.

Hi Lilli

The villagers have cleaned the house as best they can and the family are still living in there. They only have what they stood up in so as you can imagine with 4 children what this mum must be going through.

Pressed the wrong button sorry. Lilli anything you have that you can donate can be dropped off to me at the shop or we can arrange to get stuff collected.

Have arranged for the SOS project to visit on saturday and they will help where they can. The neighbours are cooking for them at the moment as they have nothing to cook on but again we are trying to get food packs from the SOS. I will post more details as and when i get them but for now the main thing is to try and keep them warm and get clothes for the kids.

Happy new year to you and guido

That is sad news for a Family to start the New Year with!

Well done Liz and Guido for your contributions and help! (Lilli) You have a good Heart, maybe the negative members will take note of your kindness and stop slagging you and your Restuarant off!

If I was in Cyprus I would help this poor Family. Thank God nobody was injured!

Happy New Year to all members!

I have a large rug, a double size quilt and quite a bit of bedding (sheets, pillowcases etc). Teresa told me last night that somebody is delivering 2 single beds today. I have also got knives, forks and spoons and a few other kitchen implements but no pans so if anyone has a spare saucepan that would be great. I've also got a couple of bath towels.

Hi Teressa,

Ali has just left with the beds and bedding, and a few other things, stop crying now. Ali tells me you are over whelmed, by the gernerosity of people here in TRNC, we all pull together in a crisis, dont we.

I would like to thank Kar for giving me bags of clothes for the mum and children, also Tulips shop for giving me a discount.

They are still going to need much more than this, so please keep sorting your

childrens clothes for anything that is outgrown.

Also nice warm clothing for a lady about size 14/16.

I would like to thank everyone who has donated items for this family, they all now have proper beds to sleep in tonight and decent bedding.

I will be vising the family tomorrow along with Nuket from the SOS project and we will then have an idea of what is still needed. I know they are still desperate for warm childrens clothes.

They are so grateful for the generosity shown to them in their hour of need.

The fire was caused by an electrical fault and damaged the whole house, nothing could be saved.

Will update again tomorrow

Thankyou

Do you know what i find so heartwarming about this thread ??

Many, many Brits have had the stuffing kicked out of them by Cypriots/the system and they still have the good nature to give to people less fortunate then them.

Goon on ya, that's what i say.

hi nick you know we may well have been ripped off by the nove riche here ie buiders etc but i think we are all of the opinion that this 2 tier system leaves the poor people poor with no system to fall back on,, god love them if they got on a plane to uk they would have had the help that they deserve if they were part of the EU which they should be then again they would be helped but NO leave them to thier own devices. as a nation we are charitable as our adopted country we have to help. i only wish that there was a charity here such as red cross etc but i guess as its unregonized that wont happen so we all do what we can. i wonder how hard it would be to set up a charity for cases like his and underprividgled or disabled kids xx happy new year nick

I would like to say that when I was in Starling today, trying to sort out what I thought would be sensible to buy for this needy family, I met with a local Turkish cypriot character whom I have known for 9 years and explained what I was doing. I might just have been talking to the man on the moon!! I was so .peed off. i thought he might at least offered to buy a bag of pasta. Who says that charity begins at home?????????? Well, I can sleep easy in my bed tonight knowing that I have done something to help this family, I am not well-off by any means, but I have helped. I hope he can sleep as well as I can.

I have just visited the family and thanks to the generosity of everyone who has donated they are now comfortable. The mum is so grateful to everyone who has taken the time to care.

It will take them time to recover from this but at least they are all now smiling again and are warm. I will sleep more comfortable tonight now i have seen them with my own eyes.

Thankyou all so much
