After queueing to pay Car Tax for a while today once it got to my turn the electricity went off - as they do not have a generator the whole office just ground to a halt!

Surely with all the extra revenue they are collecting they should be able to afford a generator?

Taz666 the road tax varies between 141 - 2675.70 lira per year depending on the age and weight of car.

The electric failing is a bonus for the workers as they can get on with the really important things in life, like drinking coffee and chatting among themselves. So it may inconvenience a few customers but at the end of the day you will return and pay your tax.

I think the speeding fine business is all to do with the discounting system they have introduced. For example if they find that you have had no motoring 'indiscretions' over the last year then you get a discount on your road tax. I think the discounts get bigger the longer you have been free of traffic offenses.

I know this sounds bizarre for the TRNC but it is true. I have some archived newspaper information about this new system and If I get time I will try to dig it out and post on here.
