Car Hire in the South

I am flying into Larnaca later this month and would appreciate some advice on car hire in the South. I understand not all operators allow their cars to go to the North. Also, can I get fully comp insurance at the border? Some websites say you can only get third party, which is a bit risky. Cheers

I don't have the list of Car hire firms that allow their cars into the north with me but there are other threads that will give you details.



Insurance is third party.

Caulkhead..There are companies in the north,who if you hire a car off them for 2 weeks they will collect you from Larnaca for a nominal fee.I am doing this in June with A-One renta car...

Good point Coachie,

Also Acmenya will give you the required paperwork to take a car from North to South, and before all the doubter pop in saying not possible, friends of ours(remember the British car impounded thread) hired a car from Acmenya a few weeks back, whilst theirs was impounded, and travelled to the South no problem on a few occasions.

Thanks for the suggestion but I hired from Acmenya once before and the car was in a positively dangerous state. Their replacement was not much better! They claimed it was the end of the season and they had no way of knowing the car was unsafe unless the earlier hirers told them! They don't inspire me with confidence.

I have no personal experience on the condition of cars in the north I have gone on the recomendations of other board members.....

Coachie your advice is appreciated, but I just thought I ought to mention my experience with the said company. Caveat emptor is so important when doing anything in TRNC but not everyone new to the Island realises this at first.
