we've just bought a new lap top and are trying to import everything from microsoft outlook 2003 onto it from our old pc. The pc is XP, the laptop Vista.we've exported it fine. there are no user restrictions on either, but it keeps telling us that we're not permitted to carry it out.

Anyone had a similar problem? Or any suggestions.

thanks for any help!

Hi Andy,

I've exported outlook into a .pst file and saved it on my external hard drive. Then I plugged the external hard drive into the laptop, went into outlook and tried to import the information. When i try to import the file however, it says that I don't have permission to acces the information. When I exported it I made sure that it wasn't password protected or read only, so I am now stuck at this point. The only thing I can think is that the PC runs on XP and the laptop runs on VISTA. Any Ideas?

Thanks for your help

You need to setup an account in the new Outlook using the original user names and passwords. Once done, close Outlook and replace the now newly created Outlook.pst with the old Outlook.pst. Open Outlook and job done. If your old .pst file was called something else rename it to Outlook.pst. Best do all this with a copy and not the orginal file just in case something goes wrong.

Easy. open outlook on vista. it opens up a welcome message. Then close outlook on vista. search for the outlook folder on vista, it should be somewhere like this: C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

(xxx = my user name on the vista system)

- to find this folder you must choose under folder options: select "Organize" then select "Folder and search options" here you have to choose: "View" and klick on the icon: "Show hidden files and Folders"

Name the backuped pst file as outlook.pst

Take this pst from your backup and add it to the above folder. if there is already an outlook.pst file in there you can overwrite it. Important: Always use COPY and PASTE. Dont use CUT. If you CUT the pst file from your Backup drive and something goes wrong while copying than you loose it. When finished restart outlook and it should look like your old outlook on xp with all the mails and folders. The mail accounts need to be created new. Thats it.

Did this 10 times without any problems!
