Wyn, Point taken ,but Punktich left last week and more quality to follow i fear, the few decent informative posts are being enveloped in the crud. Its going the same way as the UK with all the intelligent ,financially adept members leaving to pave the way for the the flotsam and jetsam to rule the roost !!!!!!!

I read the article and found it a poor attempt to cast Turkey in the role of Israel. He should look at the ghettos Turkish Cypriots were forced into in the 60's, where medical aid and food supplies were prohibited from entering by GC forces, and he will see where the similarities with Israel begin.

The current turmoil in the midle east again rears its ugly head. Similar in some respects to the "Cyprus proplem" we see nationalistic aspirations combined with expansionist territorial desires. There can be no winners whilst Hamas refuse to talk with Israel and resort to violence and terrorism. Israel can and do inflict outrageous casualties on its subordinate neighbour. What effect does this have upon Cyprus. The European Union has little influence in the middle east. The USA Does. Cyprus and Turkey are strategically placed to influence the region. The Union needs to attain a presence by virtue of full union status for the whole of the Island. Turkey is another attractive allegiance to the Union. However Turkey could go either way as the influence of India and China become stronger. The EU must hasten its aspiration, recruit Turkey and importantly to fully incorporate Cyprus as a stable whole. Cyprus has peace and peacfull settlement is closer, unlike its eastern neighbours

Great post Charlie I have always wondered why the GC's have never harassed the North in any military sense. Of course, it would not be wise to with the Turkish Army ready to retaliate at a moments notice, but the fact remains the GC's have it good. The CEPS report highlighted the sense of satisfaction that many GC's feel about their life. Levels of satisfaction are probbaly the highest in the Westren world. Things clearly are going well for the GC's, and as this writer highlights they have many things to be grateful for. The trouble is that humans beings are never fully satisfied, and often, when we feel good and strong we want to expand, to grow and often subsume. What is the ROC aspiration?

when i speak with some greek cypriots, i get the feeling that they are tired of all this cyprus stuff and just want a solution and peace on the island. i think many turkish cypriots feel the same way.
