Yet another institution goes to the wall! After the 1990's tie up to secure jobs for each company, now they have called in the receivers. The last major employer in Stoke On Trent is now on its way out. Stoke will now have to be rebranded, as the "Home of the Potteries" no longer can it claim to be. That honour goes to Indonesia. It's not just Wedgwood but the name of Royal Doulton, who are part of the company, that is also affected. And the next casualty will be......?

wedgewood have been in business for 150 years they are hardly a new company which beggars bellief that they have not built up enough resorses to ride this economic "blip" ! there will be a number of less respected companies that use this opportunity to dump their debts on the uk taxpayer and blame it on the economy ! however ! it really astounds me that before they go the directors receive a massive self awarded bonus sometimes in the millions !! not suggesting this is the case as far as wedgewood are concerned but 150 years ? surely they got a porcelain piggy bank somewhere in their kilns ??????

RE msg 1, TimothyCadman : (...) And the next casualty will be......? (...) ===> The Royal Mail. Will most likely be taken over by the Dutch giant TNT (Source: The Sunday Times, Business section, December 21, 2008).* * Maybe the mail from the UK will finally arrive in TRNC without problems...?

RE msg 9, Quarmby : (...) so TNT are also going to takeover the TRNC postal as well then to make sure it arrives here (...) ===> I'm afraid the problem is not (Turkey or) TRNC. The problem is inside the UK (and I'm sure the BRS is going to prove that - read Cyprus Today). Why does most mail arrive safely in TRNC from family in France, New Zealand and Holland (I've not lost one single postcard or letter in five years). Could it be because there are no Greek-Cypriots working for the Dutch mail?

Snakes, Just a couple of points to correct you on your reply. Wedgwood doesn't have an "e" in his name and the company is 250 years old, not 150, this month.
