From 'World Bulletin' January 4th.... GREEK CYPRIOT PARLIAMENT SPEAKER'S SHAME Greek Cypriot Parliament Speaker Marios Karoyian, returned the new year gift basket sent by the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Mehmet Ali Talat. Karoyian sent the gift basket back because a label on one of the wines in the basket reads it was produced in TRNC. Can this be true? Jo Valentine

Well I have read it in three different news reports sent to me so there must be some element of truth in it. AJ

AJ, How many newspapers were forced to pay substantial damages to the McCann family for printing lies? More than three, I think. Mind you, they do rely on certain types of people believing whatever they read.

Cypfan and Nige I said there must be some element of truth in it. Reports from respected news agencies. Did I say that I believed it? A question for both of you, where do you get your information from that you regard as being true? AJ

Yes cypfan they did have to pay the McCanns but what will happen if the McCanns are eventually found guilty which I believe will be the case, then the papers will have a field day!

| Talat baffled by Garoyian snub TURKISH Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat said he did not know why centre-right coalition partner DIKO had returned a Christmas gift basket he sent to the party leader Marios Garoyian. Talat said he had discussed the issue with President Demetris Christofias because it was not the first time he had sent such gifts baskets during the December holiday period. He had sent similar ones to former President, the late Tassos Papadopoulos and the leaders of the other Greek Cypriot political parties, he said. On Friday, Garoyian snubbed the gift basket from Talat, and sent it back through the UN. Garoyian refused to accept the New Year basket because it contained a card saying it was from “President Mehmet Ali Talat” and some of the contents were stamped “KKTC”, the Turkish acronym for the ‘TRNC’. | Well dee, I knew Gerry McCann as a kid and went about with him for a while, no matter what, I wouldn't stick up for him now......guilty as sin. just for the simple fact. Even if they done nothing, they allowed it to happen. |

deecyprus, "Yes cypfan they did have to pay the McCanns but what will happen if the McCanns are eventually found guilty which I believe will be the case, then the papers will have a field day!" What makes you think the McCanns murdered their daughter when the police don't think so? Evidence (which you should report) or just a hunch?

Some people are very keen to get things deleted and maybe thast's why this BB is the way it is now. Grown up forums have mods who only have to say "back on topic please".

If the OP and / or Nige are surprised or think the GC is "foolish" then you both know less about Cyprus and the use of "TRNC" to GCs than I thought ! What might be deemed rude by you, was propably deemed rude by him - sending such a "gift" which is making a political point.. You might remember Mr Talat nearly sent the Turksish motorport club into bankruptcy and cost the track owners 2.5 millon dollars in fines as they put up a caption that he was the "president" of TRNC" when handing out formula1 prizes at the 2007 TR Grand Prix.. I'm not saying it doesn't - to an outsider or an unbiased person seem "rude" .. but the sender knew EXACTLY what they were doing by sending such a gift, too. Semantics and Cyprus...

Cypfan ..This has been debated and deleted before so why is a rerun necessary. You must relise that if statements of the nature some people are posting on here were to get back to the said family there could be some ugly court cases...Plus the fact it is totally against the thread topic...
