Yep the rules have changed again, please be aware that you now also need a receipt from the tax office to prove that all taxes on your property purchase have been paid. There is an indication that people renting may need to prove that all taxes have been paid but I have no real info as of yet. This may also be true for initial residency.

So what happens if we are still waiting for our permissions to buy then we have to pay the tax, I have just completed my 4th year residency, so next year if its not through you are saying we could have problems, what next?

My wife went in the Police Station today and was told it is now a requirement so although we had a receipt from our builder they wanted one from the Tax Office. My wife had to visit our builder to get a copy of the tax receipt. As per usual this new rule has not been thought through and I would expect to see some sort of capitulation in the coming weeks. Although it has no real consequence for us I know it will for a lot of other people. I have been on the phone to some close friend of ours that have dealings with the HBPG and a couple of newspapers so expect to see some interesting responses over the next few days/weeks.

Any thoughts on how this will work for many people who live in unfinished properties and not registered for tax for obvious reasons.

Also can see problems for people in rental properties. If persons pays landlord and land lord does not pay taxes!!!

I can see a lot of problems coming from this latest gem.

Re Msg 9

I've just renewed my residency and as a tennant you are responsible for going to register your copy of the rental contract and paying 0.5% tax on the total rental sum. Your copy of rental agreement is then stamped and you get a receipt. It shouldn't affect tennants one bit if the landlord doesn't pay his monthly 10% tax - they'll go after them not you.

jack

this is interesting because hubby was with a friend and they were in the policestation having coffee.

the policeman actually wrote hubby down the list of thing that was currently needed.

maybe this is only for those who don't yet have a kochan in their name?

because to get your kochan you need to have paid the tax.

why would you also need the reciept??

It is a way of ensuring that taxes are being paid. A shame they don't apply it to all the builders who refuse to transfer title deeds........

You need a copy of your title deed if you have one, if not

a copy of your stamped sale agreement, if not

a copy of your tenancy agreement.

I presume you're talking about KDV? If this is the case, it is disgusting that yet again the buyers are being penalised, being forced in to paying KDV while the land owners are not forced in to transferring the deeds over.

No, its not KDV. They require you now to show your contract of sale with the stamp duty having been paid, which is 0.5% of the sale price is lodged at the District Lands Office within 21 days of signing or 1.5% thereafter.

Hi doughnut40,

I hope you are right on this, because as Cruella says anyone who has bought with Medview will be in trouble. KDV paid on hand over of keys but never paid to tax office. Isn't it time the government started doing something about these developers who are getting away with this?

OK a bit more info.

If you have your title deeds then as far as I understand there should be no problem, where my wife fell foul was that our title deeds are still lodged with our builder pending parcelisation and our sales contract was produced as per the latest known information (and the same as last years application) only to find out that there were new rules in place. Luckily we have a good relationship with our builder and they sorted it out with Immigration and the Police.

I guess the point of my initial message is make sure you know the up to date rules before you embark on the residency/renewal of residency process.
