This morning as I had a day off I decided to put on my walking boots,pack a rucksack and go for a hike.After 40mins going up the mountain tracks in the Bachelli area I was gobsmacked at the peace and tranquallity this area has to offer.The dew on lush grass glistening in the sunshine,the first flowers coming into bloom,the smell of the pines wafting down the mountain slopes.It could have been mistaken for Switzerland,Austria,even the good old Lake District.I didnt even come across one bit of rubbish just the odd empty catridge shell.This is how I remember Cyprus as it was when I was here in 73/74 as a young UN soldier doing his bit.My point is if your feeling a bit down go and explore the areas were there is no rubbish or building going on and see the real Cyprus.What did this do for me ,it reaffirmed why I came here in the first place and the cost ? a flask of oxo,a peanut butter sandwich and a packet of Smackos for my dogs.May it stay this way for at least my lifetime.

that is so inspiing well done you, dont know if i could walk that far, however i agree with all your sentiments. When i get a day off and take my lovely babies for a walk along the beach i feel alive and fresh, i ignore the rubbish and look at the beauty and tranquality of his island. whenevever my family visit i always tell them you will be back not because of me but because of the magic of this island it calls you back xxx
