Is there such a society in the trnc? Where would people normally go for help if they had a drink problem in the trnc?

Bill, Cyprus Today lists several different venues for AA. Not really a surprise & probably explains some of the posts on here.

Whatever next? The police force in Torquay has blown £30,000 to give out flip-flops to ladies a bit worse for wear in the town centre. According to the Police, it’s easier for squiffy madams to walk in flip-flops than it is to lurch about in high heels. But this is also the force that has ‘mop-cops’: officers who patrol the streets looking for those under the influence doing wee-wees in the street. If they see someone in the act of micturation, the hygene-minded law-enforcers provide a bucket and mop for the offender and order them to clean up after themselves. Only in the UK eh?

Msg 9 is true, although I think it was only over Christmas, did you know there is a law whereby a pregnant woman can pee into a policeman's hat, if she gets caught short? True!

This is a strange law.

In Santa Cruz, Bolivia it is illegal for a man to have sex with a woman and her daughter at the same time.

I suppose we have to presume this was a big enough problem that they had to pass this law!

Back on to the Alcohol thread.....did you know the law of Texas states that no person can consume more than three sips of beer at a time if they are standing up. But, if they are falling over or stumbling around, then that may be a different story.

What about if the helmet split as she was sitting on it? Would she be charged with criminal damage to a helmet?

If the Lord Mayor of London has one too many, he is allowed to pee against a rear wheel of his 'carriage'.

I can't remember whether it's the offside or nearside though.

I wonder what size those flip flop's were? probably made things worse if they were too big, I think they did it for a laugh!

I don't think it should be restricted to pregnant women only because why should they be the only ones allowed to take the p***s?!!!

Quite right!

What about fathers to be?

They should be allowed to relieve themselves in traffic wardens hats, even if the wardens still wearing it!

My name is Rita and I am an alcoholic and yes there are meetings on the Island. Saturday in the basement of the Church between 1 - 2 and on a Wednesday evening there is another from 7.30 .m. - 8.30 p.m. You would be very welcome to these meetings or if you prefer one of our members would arrange to meet with you - my telephone number is 0542 8557743. For anyone wondering why I have given my telephone number and name - when I came here in 1986 there were no meetings and I was by myself for 15 years except for holiday makers visiting that is why when Cyprus Today started I printed my name and telephone number. But anonimity is kept - most people know I am an alcoholic but have not drank for many many years. We are there to give our experience, strength and hope to whoever is in need.

Msg 9. In Australia flip flops are known as Thongs. Signs on restaurant doors read "thongs must not be worn on these premises" I imagine seeing a lot of underwear being left outside

Bill I know Rita quite well & have done for 18 or 19 years. She is a lovely lady with a nice husband. Rita on the rocks & Rita at the bamboo were two of our favourite places to eat.

So that Rita doesn't feel too lonely, I am also a recovering alcoholic, not having had a drink for 24 years. Anyone out there who feels they are alone with this problem, you are not. Get in touch, or come to the meeting, it could be the start of a new life!

I think it's very brave of people to disclose, on an open forum, that they are recovering Alcoholics. Best wishes to you and keep up the good work.
