Hey guys,

I have my flight ticket..one way...to come out on 19th jan. would like some advise on who to use to move my things over..cost, time, etc.

i am only moving a few large items of furniture and the rest will just be the personal stuff like towels, kitchen stuff etc etc. The house I am moving to is furnished so dont need the likes of beds and sofas.

Cheers

You will be so surprised how quick you will fill a 20ft container. Try olaytrans@olaytrans.com they provide an excellant service door to door and are one of the best value removers you will find.

Good luck on your move. What area are you going to????

hi pussy cat

welcome to the forum

congrats on you moving to north cyprus

there are few options you can take for moving your items over, firstly you can get a 20ft or 40ft container to bring your stuff over but this way can be quite costly if you cant fill the 20ft or 40ft up, by what ive read you only intending to bring a few big items and small belongs so i suggest maybe using a method called l.c.l which stands for less than container load the way this method works is by the removel company takes all your stuff and puts it all in one box which is then put on to a lorry which is shared with 3 or more other boxes goin in the same direction and then it goes by road and sea this method can be quite cheaper than getting a container for yourself and the quote is based on size of the box used rather than paid for 20ft whether you have 20ft or less

what ive done is provide you links to two diffrent reputable companies fist is dolphin movers which are well known in removels to north cyprus, and the second which ive used and come well reconmended is bishops move

http://www.dolphinmovers.com/ based in london

http://www.bishopsmove.net/ has twenty five diffrent offices in as many locations

hope this all helps

and good luck with everything

Had fairly poor service from Dolphin when we moved, damaged goods - but not damaged enough to claim on insurance, they didn't ship stuff when they said they would, lots of hassle.

Good luck pussycat

We moved out the end of July, but they had my car from June and kept telling us it had been shipped, infact it didn't go until July. It was damaged on the boot where it had been laid on it's back during shipping, also they took off the wheels and hadn't put them back on properly - when we took it to a garage 'cos it didn't feel right he was horrified and said they could have come off at any time. Minor damage to my sons push bike - broken brake handle. Have also not had very good service from them either here, but especially in england.

Might have been a one off, but certainly wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

Good luck with your move Georgie Girl

Hi pussycatuk i know of a small company who has actually moved a friend out , but has said they wont do it again as it was too costly and time consuming .they couldnt financially absorb the time or cost . but what they do now . is to recommend clients to get a container delivered and that they would pack it according to international standards it apparently only costs about a £1000 to ship out . they have said they will get back with some numbers for reliable reasonable container firms. if you want the numbers just say so and i will forward them to you

good luck simbas

Hi pussycatuk

I am very jealous, you have a date to move, enjoy every moment, so some things might go a little wrong, but so what, there might be a few problems but who cares.

Just enjoy your new life and take it all in your stride, pretend your on holiday every day, your new word will manyana.

Hi Pussycat

Olaytrans appear to be good. A couple who moved over permanently this month have used them and couldn't rate them highly enough.

I know the Property Centre in Karsiyaka used to do that, I think it was called Roadrunner or something similar, I'm not sure if they're still doing it or even if they are still there as I haven't seen them advertise anything for ages.

I have just used Dolphin and there service was very good. Did not have any furniture so every thing was boxed by ourselves.

The basic cost for 40 cubic foot is £320 which I thought was very cheap.

Thats the size of 8 tea chests or one of those small transit vans.

nothing was broken however every box was opened by customs.

Had 6ytl to pay in tax for hi fi. There is also a similar tax for TV,s

It took 3 weeks to arrive door to door.

I would not recommend paying them £40 for translation of your packing lists as each list was reduced to 3 or 4 words for customs purpose. They also offer a service to get you through the police and customs however providing you know where the Police station and customs office is it is an easy process .

One tip- do not go into the customs office with your spouse as they will ask for both of your passports and stamp them. Once stamped each person has only 6 mths to ship any further items. After this you would have to pay full import duties on all items new or used.

We are having are goods shipped to kyrenia in feb 2008, we have just recieved a quote... also information regarding custom clearance stating that new instructions for 2008 state "customs" are now unable to clear shipments at the delivery address? does anyone know if you have to go to the port personally with all your documents or would the shipping agents do this? also do you need to get forms from the local muhtar to take to customs?

if anyone else is moving or moved to nc I would be grateful for there comments.

Simbas and UKTurk

I'll try the numbers and web suggestion as we have about half a container and will post their quotes on the forum - thanks for your help as Olytrans who are excellent quoted us £2100 for a 22ft container.

Thanks again

dont use Dolphin, I used them and was very disapointed, quite a few other people have had a similar experience (a bad one) More details if you need them but mesage is simple dont. Biggest problem is that they used an incompetent packing company (sub contractor)

Hi. I'm Jo, James Valentine Overseas Removals +44(0)1302 729595, Email: valentineremovals@hotmail.com. We're in Doncaster, Yorkshire but operate throughout the UK. So, working closely with Olaytrans, who are EXCELLENT, we do the initial survey, inventory sheets, costings, packing, export wrapping and loading (operatives trained to BAR standards), prepare the Shipping Lists, mop your fevered brows! then you relax and drink a few Efes while Olaytrans sort the shipping, ease your goods through Customs and deliver to your new home. My Parents moved from Leeds to Ozankoy in the 1970's so we can share some moving experiences!

Hi Pat

Probably my mistake. I stopped getting reports ages ago from the MSN one. I get the occasional one from Bachelli/Esentepe/Tatlisu site but that's normally Tom @ IAH updating flights. The one I put the link to appears to have all of the old members on ie. Eric Seans, Teresa, Classyvillagegirl, MarkvPiazza and Elko so I assumed they'd just transferred over.

Thanks for your welcome, Simbas. Some help here for anyone moving UK to NC. However you are planning on doing the move, whether you're being brave and going down the DIY route or an English Company is association with a Northern Cyprus firm (we work with Olaytrans), you will need a clear itemised inventory and you need to be able to quantify, in cu.ft or cu.m, the amount of space your goods are going to occupy. If anyone would like an inventory sheet to calculate this, please phone or Email and I'll send you one. This way your move can usually be costed without the need for an initial survey. +44(0)1302 729595. Email: valentineremovals@hotmail.com

Kind regards, Jo.
