Got to agree with Nick's builder here. I am a plumber and used to fix guttering in the uk, but in my opinion its a total waste of time and money over here. When it rains its usually torrential and no gutters can cope with the amount of rain that falls in such a short time, when it stops raining the sun comes out and its usually dry again in half an hour so whats the point, save your money and use it for something useful.

i have guttering on my villa and have to say it works,it all depends on the pitch of the roof ,mine is not steep,i can easily walk all over it thus when it rains the guttering takes it,my only moan is the down pipes.not long enough but easily rectified when i get time(lol)

I would have thought the point of guttering in Cyprus would be, first to have it correctly installed so that it does an adequate job and to have the rain go in an underground tank for use on the garden. Or am I missing something here? The Butlers wife

Message 14, I thought of that, but of course a 2 ton tank would be full within the first few minutes of a good downpour, if the rainwater from the entire roof was fed into it. To make a usefull contribution towards your water needs in the summer, when water is in short supply, you would need to store say 100 tonnes of water. That would need a tank 10 metres long by 5 metres wide by 2 metres deep - say about the size of a large swimming pool - Underground! Don't know the cost, but how about 10 thousand pounds as a starting guestimate? - Anyone got an accurate costing?
