Hi everyone,

I have got to apply for my residency shortly and not sure if my circumstances will create a problem.

I've got money in the bank, UK passport etc, but i live with my boyfriend (house owned outright, in his name) obviously not paying rent.

Will a letter from him confirming i am his girlfriend and i do not pay any rent to live there be acceptable ??

Thanks in anticipation.

Suzie.

I know this doesnt help, but when we went to apply for ours last year, our Muhktar, excuse spelling, asked how long we'd been married. When I told him we weren't, he said "big problem". Its only when he saw my name on the contract, that he let me have a letter to apply for my residency.

go into girne police station where they do the residency and ask them, what you will need to produce in your situation.

We did it last year and whilst we got a few questions it didn't cause any problems and we didn't provide any additional documentation letters etc.

Hi, I am in the same situation and my partner and me went to the noter with passport and house contract and he gave us a document, he obviously does it a lot because he filled in a template. Very easy, cost 40tl.

Unfortunately 'living together' is not a concept that Turkish Cypriot people understand. If you do have problems then an easier way around it is for the property owner to produce a rental agreement for the co-habitee indicating a nominal rent and there should not be a problem.

Mess 7 - AJ the rental agreement will then need to be stamped and the "landlord" will have to pay tax !!

Mess 6 seems to have the way forward...

Yes of course but if it is for a nominal rent then the tax should be well worth paying if you know what i mean.

Oh by the way it was a 'last resort' proposal as I know at least two couples that have needed to resort to this method to sort their residency out.

Suzie - If you are not paying rent then say just that on the rental/tenancy agreement. No tax is then due. The Noter can also draw up the letter saying your boyfriend is supporting you.

A year on when you come to renew the Residency you will have to produce a new Noters letter and a new Rental/Tenancy Agreement for the current year. Also the Muhtars letter has to be obtained every year.

Hope this helps.

Are you looking to give the most difficult option?

Surely message 6 is more sensible?
