Thank you Paul for this infomative post.

The Author is correct in his analysis of the two leaders and their determination to keep the talks active.

I was particularly pleased to read that the European administration have taken the time to rally support for the talks.

The time has never been better for settlement.

paul,

This is a web-based article that anyone can write to plug estate agents adverts. Note lack of sources and any evidence about rising property prices. In reality they're in freefall. It's not a serious piece at all - unless the opinion of an estate agent is serious.

Paul,

Sorry, but I there's nothing new in that piece. No analysis or angles whatsoever. It's all recycled from wire service reports written by real journalists.

The last paragraph tells you all you need to know - it's just advertising blurb for TRNC estate agents. Tell me you were being ironic. Please.

Paul,

Of course I'm PP. It's on half of my sign-offs (when I remember - cheapo boards don't have a fixed facility). This is being done as a necessity because of the PP log-in farce, which presumably is Dodger's raison d'etre.

With so many people being cynical about the reunification, the piece is liek a breath of fresh air.

Reunification WILL happen. It's just a matter of time.

With the GBP/EURO exchange rate 2009 will be a key time for the North, and the pefect economic time for the North and South, as both will benifit.

With many UK holiday makers discovering Turkey as the new destination, and the south of Cyprus now relatively expensive (as every country in the Euro Zone) , the TRNC will begin to see even more investment and interest.

It's only a matter of time until the flight restrictions are lifted. Then the flood gates will open.

It takes a fool not to see that the TRNC will be the new preferred holiday destination for people who previously used to holiday in Spain/Greece/Portugal.

But of course. So easy to get to, short direct flights, value for money and cheap prices, clean and unspoilt scenery, no litter to speak of, controlled development. Politically stable. Upmarket...

Such a searing analysis, Fred.

Hi Paul

It's blindingly obvious that there will be a solution, I would put my neck on the line and say within two years if not sooner.

The UK economic problems are a good thing for those of us who have invested in TRNC. You can see the British press helping us with their travel guides to cheaper holiday destinations with the GBP/Euro exchange rate.

I was in Brugge over Christmas and New Year, and I certainly noticed the difference.

The Euro Zone is not cheap anymore the last 30 years of cheap package holidays to these destinations is over.

Look at Spain or Greece 30 years ago...they were very econimicly stable countries wern't they? A facist dictator in one and a communist state the other.

Times are changing, and private investment will bring unification.

I agree Blackpoolfan.

It's going to happen like it or not.

Look what the UK tourist pound has done for the rest of the med in terms of development.

People in the UK are looking for the next cheap destination and TRNC will be it.

It will start with direct flights. There is massive pressure from the travel companies for this.

When you are reporting me to Izzet, can you ask him if he can respond to my posts in a few places requiring clarification of the rule re legality of "TRNC"..

..this might be an ideal chance to get an answer..

"Foolish"?! .. you'd better read this first.. "It takes a fool not to see that the TRNC will be the new preferred holiday destination for people who previously used to holiday in Spain/Greece/Portugal."...

Why will this place become a hot holiday destination?

Tourists do not want to go to a dirty location. Starved dogs dead by the roadside.

No entertainment for kids. This place is 40 years behind real tourist destinations.

As for reunification. Won't this stuff the majority of brits living here. From what I can see from this forum, many people live here living on high interest rates. These will go leaving people with not enough income to live.

Look at the posts today. Half price apartments for sale. This is not an optimistic place to live.

Val44. The key word, as you stated in your post, is Optimism. We are all optimistic that things may change in the not to distant future. If things don't change then I somewhat agree with you that there could be problems for some people.

Keep your fingers crossed in the meantime.

I cannot see the investment needed to sort this place out coming until after reunification. If you put it into a realistic timescale. 5/7 years before this can be a tourist destination.

I came here with intentions of buying properties to rent out. I was optimistic when I arrived. However I must now close down my recently opened company here and I am off to somewhere where properties may increase in value. Somewhere with tourist facilities. Somewhere civilised.

This could be a great place. But it's not nearly ready yet.

Do you understand that TRNC has the rustic charm that Greece/Spain/Portugal had 20 years ago?

These countries too had they're own problems with litter and stray dogs!! If you dare to venture out of the tourist areas (which have investment from the local authorities of the tourist pound) you will find it to be exactly the same a TRNC!

Once investment is there it will only take a few years to clean the the streets in the tourist areas.

I think most of the people on this forum thought that TRNC was going to be a lovely little piece of the UK in the sun...your wrong!!!

It has exactly the same frustrations as Spain/Portugal/Greece when it comes to bureaucracy. Most expatiates don't slow down to the local pace of life, and therefore spend all day moaning on forums such as this about minor issues such.

Why move to one of the most naturally unspoilt and beautiful parts of the Mediterranean ans then spend all bloody day moaninag about it? TRNC is a lovely place.

Shame on
