Folk wishing to become UK Citizens must now take a test - in English - and get 75% to qualify for Citizenship..

Please take a few of them and decide if you should be "British".. ;)

There's 55 tests so should keep you amused

was my post off topic?

I didn't click your link...I just assumed that swearing allegiance would be part and parcel of it all.

Please accept my apologies

British and then not British.

There is a 100 pound note in the UK. Scotland big Red one. Got that one wrong as the "correct" answer was 50 pound note. So, on that basis I am not British on that test.

No big deal I suppose.

===> I took the test and bloody hell - I'm British..!

PS. For board members who take the test also: too bad that writing proper English on Bulletin Boards isn't part of your test...

Hi mmmm

I took this test about 2 years ago and got about 40% during a long car journey.. My missus thought my answer to the question "how many members of the Welsh asembly are there was incorrect as "too bloody many".

In case you are interested if you have reasonable qualifications in learning English you dont have to take the test. Mrs B has 5 certs in ESOL from Cambridge through the local college and got her Citizenship just over a year ago without this stupid exam.

Hi Breezyboy re 11

Thanks for the reminder - YEP, you can pass English as a Second Language, instead of this test... but would any of us pass, either :D

Simbas- it's OK pulling my leg but it gets very serious when 3/4 of you is reaching for the mint sauce and the remaining 1/4 is reaching for the wellies!

one of the questions was very interesting.

How long can you claim dole before you have to go on new deal?.

i got this wrong i said 6 months. apparantly the answer is 18 months.

funny that considering they put my son on new deal after 6 months. seems it's one rule for them and another rule for us.

I got 79% but I would think most of these questions cover things you would learn AFTER you become a citizen. Very unfair, maybe the UK govt. is picking up a few tips from the authorities here!

The latest.. now it could be up to 10 years living in the UK before a legal immigrant can apply for citizenship.. lots of tests, and you will be required to do volunteer work, too.

Of course EU citizens don't need to worry about gaining Citizenship - as they must be treated the same as UK Citizens.

Imagine having to go through THAT to live in "TRNC"... ;)
