I currently live in hertfordshire england and purchased an apartment in turtle bay village last september when i was over there. This will be built ready for hand over this july.(so they say).

Am now thinking of following my dream to live there.

I need advice on a number of things.

My concerns are for my children, one is 4 1/2 the other 1. Are the schools good.

I am working as window fitter here, what sort of work could be offered to me if we were to go,and what is the pay like. How do i go about getting a permit

Hope someone can help in some way.PLEASE

Have you stayed in TRNC for more than a holiday? or out of season? It's always a good test! I'm sure with all the construction that's going on that a window fitter would be in great demand, but I have absolutely no idea over pay. Might be an idea to get in touch with some of the management companies too, to see if they have a call for English-speaking people with your skills.

Hello,

To live in Cyprus its better idea to buy a villa with garden. In Cyprus you can not earn much with labour aslongas yousetup your own business. If you are over 45 its nice place to stay but if you are not retired yet and you wanna earn money its not really place to be.(as long as you have funds to setup your own business). Also if you live Hertfordshire Luton ,definetly Cyprus is better. But if you live in Pottersbar thats different situation. Hope this Helps

Hi Spurs,

Great Team by the way. I am 37, single and about 3 weeks ago decided to move to TRNC. I spent last weekend looking at property to buy. I have since put the deposit down on a 2 bed semi detatched villa in Ozankoy. The lady who showed me around had moved there with her 2 small children and they love it. Look on the Sunny dale website this is a school near Lapta. Not everyone out there is at retirement age I went to the Castle Pub to watch the footie and it was like walking into my local at home, I met loads of friendly people. I say GO FOR IT and as my mum said if you dont like it you can always come home!!

Hi Spurs

In my experience of living both in Africa and France, I found that often one of the partners doesn't settle (generally the wife). We always advised the wife to come back to UK for three months before making a decision to return. In most cases the wife found that UK wasn't what she was looking for. So my advice would be, if you can afford it, don't sell your house but go out for a year and see whether this is a viable proposition. I agree that salaries will be much lower but take into account that life is cheaper.

I think it would be a wonderful experience and opportunity if your little girl could attend school in another country particularly if you take into accoun the standard of education, never mind the joy of learning a new language.

Good luck.

Regards

"My concerns are for my children, one is 4 1/2 the other 1. Are the schools good. "

The local schools are only taught in Turkish with English Lessons given as a 2nd language. Just like we learnt French or Spanish at school. Turkish schooling is free.

There are English Schools here following the UK curriculum. The most famous being Sunny Lane School. School fees apply. Around £2000 a year for each child.

As your children are young enough, as long as they mix with local children they will quickly become bi-lingual.

"I am working as window fitter here, what sort of work could be offered to me if we were to go,and what is the pay like. How do i go about getting a permit "

You really need to set up networking circles to get jobs. Although saying that jobs crop up in the local English language newspapers regularly. These tend to be in the Estate Agency companies.

As you have a specific trade under your belt bring any certificates you have as to get a work permit for certain jobs they now require people to show their qualifications for the job, and as been mentioned before that a local isn't capable of doing the job.

The work permit is got by your employer. Wage will be between 950YTL (minimum wage) and 2000YTL dependant on work available.

Suspect that an *inappropriate* post by our recent political infiltrator sneaked in and Izzet has deleted it, so the thread reads a little oddly!
