Whilst we love Effes, real ale is missed. Any entrepeneurs out there wishing to start a revoulution with a micro brewery ?

johntie

Are we talking lager or bitter. I don't regard lager (and mass produced lager at that) as being real ale.

PS Only joking - used to drink it years ago.

Do you drink ale at room temp. or do you prefer it ice cold like a lager?

Kinda loses its taste if its cold.

Hi Guys,

I have tried to brew ale here and it is very hit and miss, it certainly would not be commercially viable because of the very hot temperatures and it's shelf life is usually only 2/3 weeks at normal temperatures

I agree Turbo. You don't want it too cold, then again warm beer is not very nice either! Just a slight chill for me.

Sherpherd Neame Spitfire bitter 4.5% will be be imported soon, subject to goverment approval, why not try Thatcher Gold Cider whilst waiting, a good alternative to larger beers.

I've drank real ale for years, I can probably name most of the breweries off by heart, the one thing you would need to be be very careful of in the heat out here is yeast infections, believe it or not that's why the old fashioned brewers wouldn't let women any where near the workings of the brewery, but aye, oh! for pint of cocker hoop by the Jennings brewery, has anyone tried any beer from the roosters brewery that was in Harrogate ?

But if your thinking of starting a micro brewery you will need lots of water will you get enough?, mash tuns brewing tuns, kegs to put it in, oh! aye, malt barley and hops, it's a simple enough process but things will need to be very clean as the slightest thing can ruin a brew.

No1 I'm afraid you've misunderstood - I buy it myself in both bars and supermarkets but what I've never come across is Gold Fassell prices at half those of Efes prices - so just wondering where Nick 'tops up'.

Johntie I too like real ale, London Pride is my favourite from Fullers Chiswick. Or I drink Guinness. I cannot stomach lager, I have allergic reactions to lager.

When I finally move to Cyprus I will be looking for real ale, so maybe some of us can get together to discuss a microbrewery. I no very little about brewing beer except it is complicated and can be dangerous as in explosive!

I used to work with a guy that brewed his own lager (He was an ex publican) and he had a large explosion under his stairs where the entire micro brewery had exploded!!!

NN re Msg's 2 & 17 - you're not normally so shy about coming forward Nick so how about sharing your watering holes or supermarkets with us as I can feel a raging thirst coming on.

I think a micro brewery is an excellent idea, it's going to take some doing though, but an alternative is to get one of the supermarkets or booze outlets to start importing some bottled real ale beers, and before anyone jumps on me I know that you can't really have real ale in bottles because it's a live beer, but there is quite a few bottled beers of that ilk, spitfire, bishops finger, old hooky, black sheep, london pride, to name but a few, it would be nice to see some of them over here.

did any of you see neil morrisey on tv set up a micro brewery in yorkshire was interesting i live near Marstons and what used to be bass now coors , what a crap name .certainly i have thought on your lines would be interesting but not sure the water would be any good untill you get the water pipe line from Turkey , which should be nice water from when I went the white water rafting.you probably need something on the lines of Caffreys which is cooler but i think they ruined it somewhat when they penny pinched and reduced alc % from 5 %to about 4% kilkenney irish beer is very nice not seen it for sometime in cans.
