Is it me members, or is life more complicated and stressfull than ever before?

Or is it just my age? Around 20 years ago life was enjoyable in the UK, Go to work earn your money, drive a nice car pay your mortgage and bills, have nice holidays and SAVE a bit of money!

These days....: Politically correct, Heath and safety. Risk assessments. Parking fines. Speeding fines. Stealth taxes. GM foods. ROAD WORKS CONSTANT! Traffic jams. Congestion charge. Emission taxes. Councils switching off street lights to save THEM money. Green taxes. Tax on flights out of UK. Excessive bank charges. Tax on car insurance. Increases on household fuels. Rain Rain Rain yet always a shortage of water, hosepipe bans...Wrong kind of rain!? More taxes and ridiculas laws!

Have I missed anything else?

Sorry to go on but am I right about life in the UK?

I just want to have quality of life and ENJOY life....hence Cyprus Im sure with its problems and cost of living increases has gotta be better than this

Nunu - if all that wasn't bad enough, how about this for a country gone P.C. mad? On the lunchtime news today there was a piece about a garage owner (small business) who's been told that when his customers drive their cars in for repair, he must instruct them to turn off car radios, c.d. players, etc. because the garage did not have a music licence!!

Ludicrous!!

Grief.....now I have heard it all.

I take it the garage owner is not allowed to listen to any of the above while he works on the cars as well...UK gone mad.

Life here in the TRNC has it's problems but it beats the stress of living in Central London and working for the Metropolitan police....now that is P.C (excuse the pun!!) gone mad.

Offender's have more rights than the victim...not for me anymore.

Puppylover - you're right - he's not allowed to listen to music while he works any more. I suppose he could always apply for a music licence.

Country's gone stark, raving mad, and, yes, offenders do have more rights than victims. Human rights and all that!

Msg 10,

Perhaps you should ask who is sending the PC brigade, the way that they are going.

I have always called a spade a spade! Good faith, and all that!

Look back through your postings!

UK in 2008 is very depressing

You're right nunu, standards have declined in most things - Ernie Wise can spell better than my son who got english o level, which would have failed at f level when I took the subject

Schools dont do mental arithmetic, but use calculators.

No public toilets because of costs and importuning

You are not allowed to criticise a gay supervisor - even if he is a corrupt bully it will breed vigilante's

Victims ignored,tv's and 3 meals a day in gaol

More cash and benefits than people working + more bonus points and family allowance if you are a single parent

Charge 18 year old learner drivers £1500 insurance to drive their family car, even though they are always accompanied. Encourage joyriding - but who cares till they hit someone

Knives rule, binge drinking tolerated, but they would rather ban fox hunting and all smoking-why cant they have a room of their own

Must stop now, beginning to sound like neg n - whose standing for PM next year Steve

Msg 15,

I quote...You do not like us!..... I have no reason not to like you! That is not part of my makeup! Perhaps you should ask what makes you what you are!

I don't really want to get involved but there appears to be some misunderstanding between Wynyardman and The-Wicks.

Reading your posts it appears that you are both in agreement with the problems of political correctness in modern Britain.

Are you sure you have not got off on the wrong foot, a shame if you fell out when you're on the same side.

I think the problem is that folk have too many choices/options these days. People 'shop' to relax - it's a hobby now! Crazy! The simple life is gone - everything these days has to be a big deal, and whatever you do (wear, drive, etc etc) has to be better than everyone else. Materialism - that's what has happened...
