Can all you helpful knowledgeable people please advise how to go about bringing a vehicle to Northern Cyprus rather than buy there. Pitfalls and and import duty costs and any help you can give would be appreciated. We would like to bring a 4x4 with a mid glasses guide price of £5370 and drive it over ourselves if advisable. We are not sure if there are lots of reasons why this would not be advisable but would welcome any help and advice.

I've no personal experience,but from what I've read on here I wouldn't consider it myself.

The import duty and taxes are prohibitive and bear no relation to the value of the car.

Get some proper advice and think carefully.....if you can sell it for £5K in the UK it may be better to do that and buy another over here.....it will seem overpriced , but it may actually work out cheaper in the end !

This subject has been covered countless times, and with all but a few exceptions, it ends in tears. Friend on mine had his GB plated car impounded, in the end drove across the crossing and parked it up on the other side.

Bottom line I think you will read on here is 'don't go there'

I would definately advise you to sell in UK and buy over here.

We imported our car, which we had owned over 5 years, one of the criterias, during our year driving as a tourist, the government put the

import duties up.

We had calculated that it would cost us in the region of £5.000 for duties, which we thought was OK, as it has low mileage.

When we went to customs, it ended up costing approx £10,000.

Think long and hard before you do it.

Good luck

Hi

We bought a 4 x 4 in Scotland for £7000 and drove it through Europe to Cyprus arriving in July last year. We were refused entry to Cyprus with the car until we had registered it and paid the import duty, this was because we had a residency stamp in our passport and the authorities demanded that duty would be paid immediately. On 9th July we eventually paid our import duty and all cost to rgister and tax the car. This took us almost 5 days and six trips back and forth to leftcosia, and included a "bung" to a customs officer to smooth out the paperwork. Total cost was just under £6000. On 10th July the price went up by £4000. Be prepared to pay anything between £8000 and £10,000 to bring your car in to TRNC. If you want more info please pm me

I'm making enquiries to get my custom Harley there, it cost me about £5000 to build it and after speaking to customs they want £5000 import duty, it's a joke really, but I'll still get it over as the summer's in the UK are now terrible for biking.

Many thanks to everyone for their advice. Will now buy over there and save both money and hassle.
