All 155 passengers escape when their Airbus 320 was hit by aflock of birds which caused the failure of BOTH engines and the pilot was forced to ditch in the Hudson River 3 minutes after take off. Due to his magnificent fkying skills he put the aircraft down on the water and it did not break up.Every one walked out and stood on the wings as the rescue craft and ferries picked them up.All they suffered was minor cuts and bruises. This has got to be one,if not,the best bit of flying ever seen.Think about it,3minutes from take off to ditching safely. He deserves the highest honour that can be given to a civilian in the USA...

I agree, give the pilot a top honour. And not one like the worthless bit of tin awarded to Poodle Blair for services to trans-Atlantic brown-nosing and war crimes.

He will certainly get the highest honour the USA is capable of awarding. He will be portrayed in a hollywood blockbuster in which the story is grossly distorted and receive a massive amount of well earned loot for the rights to use his name. Nothing else inthe plot will be recognisable.

Harlequin ..You are probably right ,I can remember 2 other cases similar to this one .One concerns the Transat plane that ran out of fuel flying from Canada to Tenerife, and the other was an AirCanada plane that ran out fuel. They made a film out of the last one,but what the hell,he deserves some thing for his brilliant airmanship.Been announced on TV that he is being Questioned by the NTSB about the accident. If what he says is right that he flew in a flock of Canada Geese then they to tend to make a mess of jet turbines, anything smaller and they probably would have stuttered a bit then came back to life and he would have been able to land back at LA GUARDIA..

Hi coachie I totally agree with you. I spend 12 years as cabin crew wand whilst we were trained to deal with all emerginces I have never seen such skill. I think the Captain crew and rescue crews all deserve the honours. A miracle. take care xxx

Heard a snippet on news where captain had text his wife while having a coffee back on shore to say there had been a bit of an incident and he would talk to her later.

Just after she got phone calls to switch on TV and who should she see but her hero husband.

As Liz states above, you trian for these eventualities but how will you react in the real thing.
