Be warned buying a secondhand dish is not always the best solution.

The success of a dish depends on its parabolic shape disassembling and then reasembling it is likley you will not be able to maintain the correct shape.

I would reccomend the Iceman for a new one, you get it assembled tuned in and gaurenteed for life.

Best thing we ever bought especially now as the HD channels are recievable here.

If you want a 1.8 dish i have one for sale complete with a SKY box

Please do not be put off by people scaremongering you into buying a new dish at a rip £2300. There are plenty of dishes for sale just make sure the person putting it together is qualified to do so. I had a large dish and sold it when i moved as I could not get the signal where I am. My dish was sitting for over a year I sold it on and the guy who purchased it had it installed by Agip. No problems and no freezing. If someone does not know what they are doing they will obviously be able to maintain the same shape even if it were a new dish derrrr. Agip has also reinstalled a badly fitted dish which a friend of mine had installed by some dodgy turk.

Speak to agip before you by a dish and he can have a look at teh one you are buying. There is a recession so save every penny you can

Dear Ataturk, re msg 9

Forgive me - but what is your knowledge of Satellite dishes? £2300 is not a rip off for a new 4.2m with a guarantee of service.

I've seen too many punters sold second hand dishes that *looked* ok until it was time to put them back together.

As an installer I walked away from 2nd hand re-installs unless I had installed the dish, or seen it working BEFORE I took it down - I wouldn't even re-install one *I* had installed if *I* didn't take it down.

WHY?... bitter experience.. if a segmented dish is out of wack, you may not find out until too late..

We have rejected parts from NEW dishes, too.

There is NO-ONE - period - better on the whole island, better acquainted with 4.2m set ups than Iceman - even the installers and manufacturers ask his opinion.

I've seen GREAT looking dishes produce CRAP signals.. the ONLY way to know if it's a good 'un is to se it working BEFORE it is moved..

Of course you wouldnt think £2300 is too much your the one who is making the money.

I searched for the best price when I had my dish installed for £1700 at the time when rip off merchants were charging surprisingly .......£2300.

Hate to burst your bubble and the obvious advertising campaign for your mate but a guy named ugur fitted my dish on his own in one day fully guaranteed not that he needed to. Everything worked fine no freezing BBC1 and all thhem channels. Luckily for the rip off merchants Ugur moved back to Turkey otherwise I cant understand the £500 difference for EXACTLY the same dish.

I know theres a recession mate but dont take the piss.

Dear Ataturk, re msg 14

I'm quite sure that Mustafa, sometimes wishes he could distance himself from me - but I can assure you that my "friendship" is one of respect and admiration for his work and professionalism.

As Hippo has pointed out, he's gone now, and Iceman is still very much on the ground..

I didn't sell the dishes in the "north" but I do know that there is a difference between "ripping off" and charging so little as to rendering one's business a "suicide mission"

Unless we could put both dish constructions on a meter at the same place we can't "prove" who is best, ( I just know who would "win") but try and think for a mo.. What "gain" am I achieving by pointing out who I would choose to install a big dish..and why .. I don't supply Iceman, and he doesn't pay me commission.

The fact that you tell me the guy made it himself, in a day, is actually quite negative.

Have to second all MM's posts here.

For 4.2m offset dishes with proper service and flawless operation the only person to contact is the Iceman. The fact that Mustafa understands the science of "grabbing" the weaker sky signals and was actively involved in the design of such dishes for ALL of Cyprus speaks volumes (the 4.2m offset is a bespoke design for Cyprus necessitated by being at the very outer edge of the sky broadcast footprint).

A business-partner of mine went another route and we were left with what was effectively a 4.2m GBP3000 pond-liner. Since we replaced the dish with one of Iceman's we have had no problems but should they develop we rest easy in the knowledge that Mustafa will set it right. Such is his professional pride in his installations, he would insist on it. However, his installations are that proper that he has not needed to do so in two years - despite gale-force winds and appalling storms buffeting our exposed dish.

Hi Gordon, re msg 17

Hope you are well..

Have to point out that :

1/ the 4.2m that "Muzzie" is using is a *prime focus* dish ! .. offset ones are one's like we use in the UK for SKY or in CY for Hotbird/ Nilesat ( Showtime) or Digiturk.. Offsets are more upright - with the lnb at the lower end of the dish, and prime focus are saucer shaped and the lnb is in the middle.

2/ Yes, Mustafa has even advised the manufacturers on how to improve the dish design - and not just for Cyprus !

Ooops - I stand corrected.

My technical knowledge extends about as far as using the "cheaper" option as a pond-liner.

Trust you're well as well Mark. Are you in the UK most of the time now?

Hi Gordon, sadly , yeah... the "Missus" was oft confused with a lady with the same birth date ( month / day - not year) and refused ( illegally) the proper residency status in Cyprus :(

Not quiet sorted yet, we've had the "sorries" but not the compo..

Hope your family are well

Take care !
