there is no doubt that the election campaign will create a fresh platform and a lifeline for the otherwise almost dead opposition who, regardless of differences between them, are totally against any solution leading to unification of the island .

why to hand over to them this opportunity when there was no pressing need for it ? what is expected from these elections that will dwarf the re-carnation of the no-solution camp ?we can see ex president denktash and his volkan group ,his son,s party and his old party ubp campaigning under his direction for no- solution or separation or re-cognition of trnc as a separate state with nothing to lose but possibly to gain.

such a campaign ,we can see will not help talat in what he is pursuing at the moment but will force him to harden his politics if he chooses to be neutral.

I dont know what your thoughts are but the UBP appear to be the party of choice with the coffee shop politicians out here at the moment. Perhaps UK TC's have a different slant on it. Would be interested to know.

the ubp also appear to be the party choice of the majority of uk tc,s. at last count there were 300 thousand turkish cypriots in the british isles ,and a total of 700 thousand in the world.

And how many TCs left in Cyprus thanks to a regime that cuts its citizens off from the rest of the world?

Musin who said this ..?

"those who want to isolate the Turkish Cypriots from the world with the

expressions of embargo and isolation, first is the former Turkish

Cypriot leader Rauf Denktas who tried to deceive the Turkish Cypriots

in the past by using the world embargo and now the Turkish Cypriot

leader Mehmet Ali Talat who is trying to continue the same mentality by

changing the terminology to isolation."

I often wonder about embargoes because when you look around you can buy anything from HP sauce to a Toyota pick-up.

I know it comes via Turkey but does it all come from that source ?

Hi AJ re my msg 7 and your 8

It was a TC :o

"Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris newspaper (16.01.09) reports that the

Cyprus Turkish Teachers Trade Union (KTOS) organized yesterday a

demonstration in order to protest against the Turkish Cypriot leader

Mehmet Ali Talat. KTOS said that Mr Talat is trying to prevent the

openings of the Turkish Cypriot Football Association to the world in

the football field. KTOS supported yesterday the Cyprus Peace Platform

with its demonstration entitled Kick at Talat. Mr Sener Elcil, General

Secretary of KTOS, in a speech during the demonstration, said that

those who want to isolate the Turkish Cypriots from the world with the

expressions of embargo and isolation, first is the former Turkish

Cypriot leader Rauf Denktas who tried to deceive the Turkish Cypriots

in the past by using the world embargo and now the Turkish Cypriot

leader Mehmet Ali Talat who is trying to continue the same mentality by

changing the terminology to isolation."

these goverments have kept the tc's in isolation for all these years.

its time for change!

kibris this week showed pictures of people shopping in nicosia and pictures of one person shopping in lefkosa.

i think that sums it up.

musin you are sitting pretty in the uk like many other tc's.

think about what the people who live here rearly need!

the turkish motherland bit has run its course and people now want more.

why should they not have the same as others in the e.u?

any party willing to free the tc's would have my vote.

sorry i forgot , i left my rights along with the one to vote in the uk.

maybe thats why the gov last year gave out loads of kimlik cards to the turkish?

at least they know which way they would vote.

us euopeans can't be trusted.lol.

FS re 12

"kibris this week showed pictures of people shopping in nicosia and pictures of one person shopping in lefkosa. " ?? Aren't they one and the same place? ;) .. I know what you meant.. *Lefkosia*.. "it's all Greek to me" - if you know what I mean ! :P

Musin - have you forgotten the "this country is ours!" movement from 2002/3 ? ..for those who aren't aware this was TCS protesting that THEY wanted to choose their path, and how close their ties with the GCs ( as part of an EU Cyprus) and Turkey was to be...
